Portimao is the closest main town and is filled with large shops and restaurants. Also close by is the town of Praia do Rocha. Alvor is a classic old fishing village. Narrow cobbled streets lead down to the huge beautiful beach and harbour.. The streets are a maze of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. All bars and restaurants are child friendly which makes this an ideal holiday destination for families. Alvor beach caters for all watersports and has numerous beach side cafes and restaurants. Not far away for families there is Zoo Marine and Slide and Splash which make a fantastic fun day out. The area is surrounded by fantastic Golf courses. For example the Alto Golf Club is within walking distance as well as many others that are near by.

The Algarve is recognised as one of the finest golfing destinations in the world.
