Located opposite and within a 15 minute walk from the beautiful medieval hilltop village of Mougins, and the Mas Notre Dame de Vie, where Picasso spent his final 13 years, Mulberry Cottage is the perfect bolthole. Recently renovated accommodation is in a charming, typically Provençal stonewall structure, with comfortable furnishings and fine art by the artist owner. Ample space and abundant sunshine, which pours through windows and glass doors, summer and winter alike, make it a very inviting place to just sit quietly and recharge one’s energy. Mulberry Cottage has a private, enclosed garden, equipped with outdoor furniture for al fresco meals and sunbathing. There are a couple of raised flower beds, planted with aromatic flowers like Lavender, Geranium, Rose, Lantana, Jasmin and Bouganvillea and some pot plants, but mostly the garden is paved and secure. There is also a boules patch and shared salt water swimming pool. Separate entrance with ample parking and no passing traffic

There are a number of excellent Golf clubs in close proximity. A tennis club with hard and clay courts (5 mins) Horse riding club (5 mins) Skiing areas are a 2 hour drive. Mougins is the home of world famous Moulin de Mougins Restaurant. If you love Jazz, you'll enjoy summer here, when there is an abundance of it on offer in Juan les Pins. Grasse, home of famous perfume factories Galimard, Molinard and Fragonard - all open to the public. Valbonne village and Mouans-Sartoux, neighbouring villages, both have a markets 2 X week. Ferry boats go to St Marguerite & St Honorat from Cannes daily, as well as to Monte Carlo, St Tropez and Italy in the summer. There's boating and fishing at lake St Casien (15 min) or up in the mountains at the wolf conservation area called Parc Alpha (90 mins) Antibes has a sailing club and Marineland, with its dolphins, sharks and killer whales is a great day out for the whole family. The Italian food and clothing market in Ventimiglia is a 60 minute drive.

Additional information about rental rates

  • BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS
    1. Once availability has been confirmed, the booking will be guaranteed upon receipt of a signed contract from you and initial deposit of 30% of the hire cost. For bookings less than 90 days before arrival date the entire hire cost is due.
    2. Payment should be made via transfer to our bank account or PayPal.
    3. The balance is due 90 days before arrival. Failure to transmit the balance by the due date gives us the right to cancel the booking and retain the deposit.
    4. A security deposit of 1,000 euros to cover any damages during the stay is due at least 14 days before arrival. This will be reimbursed after deduction of payment for any damages at latest 14 days after departure.
  • 5. If you cancel for any reason whatsoever and you do so more than 90 days before the rental is due to begin your initial deposit will be forfeited; between 90 and 30 days before the rental is due to begin 50% of the rental will be forfeited; otherwise 100% of the rental will be forfeited.
    6. Under no circumstances may the number of persons sleeping in the property exceed 4 adults and 2 children under the age of 18.  
    7. The rental period is from Saturday, 17:00 to Saturday, 10:00.   
    Arrival time is between 17.00 o'clock and 20.00 o'clock - the exact time to be mutually agreed with us 7 days before your arrival. Any arrival after 20.00 o'clock may be arranged at a surcharge of 50 Euros.
    The latest departure time is 10:00 on Saturday Morning.
    8. The inventory must be checked and signed on arrival and on departure and will be the document used to determine any damages or losses. 
  • Apart from the refundable Security Deposit as mentioned in the Terms & Conditions ( point 4 above) there are no extra charges once you start your rental.

The bedding is changed over at the end of every week, when the cottage is serviced, on a multiple-week rental. The service is included in the price.

Notes: The communal salt water swimming pool is only used by the owner, who lives permanently in the main house with her husband and 2 young sons and access to the pool is unrestricted to Mulberry Cottage renters. The pool is 50 m from the cottage. There is a shallow toddler platform measuring 3x3m at the steps leading into the pool ( 13 x 6 m ), which is 3m in depth at it's deepest part. Towels provided for use at the pool and there are sun loungers and umbrellas poolside. Eco friendly house products are used. Non toxic gardening is practised. Recycling facilities available. The gas bottle for the stove is situated outside the building for health and safety reasons.

Museums: For artists and art lovers the area abounds with interest. The owner of the cottage is an enthusiatic and experienced 'plein air' painter herself. There are many museums and galleries open to the public: National Museums of the Maritime Alps, Matisse Museum in Nice, Chagal l Museum in Nice, Picasso Museum in Antibes, Fernand Leger Museum in Biot, Museum of Modern Art in Nice, Annonciade Museum in St Tropez, Foundation Maeght in Saint-Paul, Renoir Museum & Gardens in Cagnes sur Mer. At Vallauris there is the National Picasso Museum and Magnelli Museum, Ceramics Museum and thriving ceramics scene.

Painting Weeks: For those souls who enjoy activity holidays, the owner, an artist, runs 'Paint Weeks'. These are fun, informal, guided, 'plein air' painting sessions, that run over a week. She tailors itineraries to closely fit the preferences of participants. Painting sessions can be scheduled for mornings, afternoons or both every day or just one day. An itinerary can be based on a theme or varied in topic. They can include museum visits. There is no tuition involved and all levels are welcome. A Paint Week can be for a group as small as one individual, or as big as four. If needed, she will chauffeur drive you in your hire car or you can simply head out on your own, following the suggested itinerary. Well-behaved non-painters are welcome to tag along. Hourly rate for planning an itinerary or chauffeur service on application. Mulberry Cottage is also used simply as an Artists' Retreat and many artists return year after year to recharge their batteries and prime the artistic pump.

A wonderful summer holiday

We stayed at Mulberry Cottage during the summer of 2008 and enjoyed a truly fantastic time. Lynn and her family are the perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble and indeed we were treated more like visiting friends rather than people renting a property. With 2 young children (a 3 year old and a 9 month old), Mulberry Cottage proved to be a perfect location, with access to many activities in close proximity and a wonderful salt water pool to enjoy if we stayed at home.

All in all, we had a very relaxing time and our kids loved the experience so much, which in turn made our experience very enjoyable! We can't thank Lynn, Peter and their 2 sons enough for making our summer 2008 such a lovely time and would definitely recommend this property, purely as a place to stay, but especially for the effort the owners take to make sure your holiday is a great one. We will definitely be back!

From the time our hostess fetched us from the airport we were treated with such hospitality and interest that I don't think we could have enjoyed our trip half as much if we had stayed in Nice as we had planned .The cottage and setting was just as described in the website The travel facilities were very convenient and the host is a mine of information about the area and the artists .She also , on the last day ,at twilight ,recommended we walk to the hill town of Mougins .That was really memorable .I can really recommend a stay at Mulberry Cottage.

Mulberry Cottage is a beautiful, tranquil and charming place to holiday and provides delightful accommodation in a picturesque setting. Terraced gardens, a lovely pool, and gorgeous views across the valley make it an idyllic setting for time away. Close to all the beautiful places, Mulberry Cottage is an ideal base for sightseeing. The owners couldn't be more welcoming or helpful and it was they who really made this a very special holiday. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.

Spacious rooms, nice and quiet, with fantastic views of Mougins from the pool, and only a 10-minute walk to the heart of the village centre. We absolutely loved the place and plan to tell everyone about how wonderful Mulberry Cottage is when looking for a place to relax.

Tranquil Getaway

Mulberry was recommended by friends and it surpassed our every expectation. Perfect setting and surrounds. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. Even without a car, getting to the superb restaurants and galleries in Mougin was easy and the public transport to Cannes, Monte Carlo, Antibe could not have been easier. The hosts were charming and very knowledgeable about the area.

Should we ever get to the South of France again, there is no doubt I would try and stay at Mulberry Cottage.
