Local Amenities:
The village of Le Fleix, lying on the banks of the river Dordogne, is 2.5 kms from the house and provides all your everyday needs including a small but well stocked supermarket, bakery/patisserie for your fresh daily bread, post office, pharmacy, garage, wine cooperative, and a very good value and friendly restaurant. An excellent Pizzeria can be found at Gardonne, 10 minutes drive from the house. Leisurely lunches and evening meals can also be taken in a wide choice of restaurants in Ste Foy la Grande and Bergerac - no better way to while away an hour or two in the middle of the day or spend a very pleasant evening. For the more energetic there is canoeing on the river, tennis at Ste Foy, bike hire, horseriding, children's aqua park, crazy golf, bowling alley, go karting, all within 20 minutes drive. The 18 hole golf course in the superb setting of Chateau des Vigiers is a must for golfers.
Other Places to Visit:
St Emillion, about 30 minutes drive, is well worth a visit with its 12th century monolithic church. Here you can tour the famous vineyards on a motorised train and take in the delights of the surrounding countryside. Meander through the cobbled streets visiting the many boutiques and wine tasting shops, stopping off at one of the bustling cafes for welcome refreshments. An hour's drive away is the pretty town of Domme, perched above the Dordogne river with its beautiful sandstone buildings and cobbled streets. Here you can explore the caves with wonderful displays of stalactites and stalagmites - well worth the effort! A short distance further on is the busy tourist town of Sarlat with its beautiful architecture. Beyond Bordeaux are the beaches of the Atlantic Coast including Arcachon, Cap Ferrat and the famous Dune de Pilat.
Wine for All:
Les Barthes is an ideal touring base for exploring the sights and produce of the region. Being situated close to some of the most famous wine growing areas in the world, aficionados of the grape can sample the delights of the Grandes Crus of St Emillion, Lalinde-Pomerol, Medoc, St Estephe, Graves, Sauternes, Barsac, Loupiac, St Croix du Mont, Monbazillac et al, as well as the more affordable and everyday wines of Bordeaux, Bergerac, Entre Deux Mers and Duras.
The only problem our guests have is how to fit in all the sightseeing they wish to do and still have time to relax!
