Chalet Waldbort, Wengen - stylish swiss chalet in mountain village
This one bedroom apartment is ideally suited for 2 people or a small family. It is situated on the first floor of the chalet and consists of 46 m2 of floorspace comprising of open plan living/kitchen/dining area where stylish furniture and furnishings are complemented by modern facilities and comforts - cooker, hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, French glassware, flat screen TV, Hi-fi, CD and DVD Player, cable and satellite channels, and internet connection. French doors open out on 2 sides providing access to balconies (11m2) offering views to the west and south west. A table and 4 chairs are available on the balconies. The bedroom accommodates a 5ft bed with fitted wardrobes and the bathroom contains a large shower with oversized shower head. Underfloor heating is provided throughout the apartment under oak flooring. Washing, drying and storage facilities, including shared ski room are also provided. The Jungfrau Region, lying south of Interlaken and the lakes of Thunersee and Brienzersee is one of the most spectacular and dramatic areas of mountain scenery in Switzerland. At its heart lies the Lauterbrunnen valley which is dominated by the mountain giants of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Wengen is perched above the valley, at an altitude of 1274m on a south west facing plateau and offers breathtaking views of mountain scenery of the grandest scale. It is a car free village of old world charm, accessed from Lauterbrunnen by train (approx 17mins). In winter the area offers extensive skiing accessed by cable car or train with skiing back to Wengen or Grindelwald. Once the snow melts, the area provides ideal hiking and walking country for all abilities. The chalet is located in a quiet position 6 mins from the centre and is conveniently situated adjacent the open air swimming pool. It is within easy walking distance of the shops, train station and other village amenities.

The rates quoted are for 7 nights for 2 people within the specified periods. The rates include the rent, bed linen and towels, kitchen towels, the final cleaning, the daily visitors tax, electricity, heating, hot and cold water. An optional shopping service can be provided at an additional charge. The sofa bed can be used on request at an additional charge to cover guest linen, towels and visitors tax.

A refundable damage deposit of 300 swiss francs is payable in addition to the rates quoted. This will be returned to guests within 14 days of the final rental period subject to the apartment being inspected and there being no breakages or damage.

The rental period is normally for 7 nights from Saturday to Saturday. However, during the low season fewer nights may be considered.

| Notes: | Prior to arrival guests are provided with useful information on travel tips to Wengen along with directions to the chalet. On arrival, a welcome pack is provided filled with useful local information, important contact numbers, recommendations on the best local restaurants, sightseeing information, things to do and see, and village amenities. Rental of the apartment includes use of the shared garden with dramatic south facing views of the Jungfrau. In summer, the apartment is conveniently located adjacent the public open air swimming pool and in winter is located 50m from the ski run and nursery area. Ski storage is provided in the chalet ski room or alternatively at Central Sports next to the cable car station. This is a great apartment if you enjoy skiing in the winter, spectacular walks in summer or simply want to unwind with long lazy days on the balconies with a glass of wine, a good book and your favourite music filling the apartment. |
Extra Travel Information
Travel Information - Wengen is easily and conveniently reached by rail from all of the main swiss airports. Connections are easy and trains run efficiently providing a relaxing way to travel to the Jungfrau region. Approx travelling times to Interlaken include - Bern airport (1 1/2 hours), Zurich airport (2 1/2 hours), Geneva airport (3 hours). Interlaken to Wengen, via Lauterbrunnen takes approx 45 mins. The last stretch of the journey from Lauterbrunnen is by cogwheel railway which trundles up the valley side to Wengen, then onwards across high pastures to reach Kleine Scheidegg and continues by tunnel through the Eiger to reach the Jungfraujoch; europe's highest train station at 3454m. The journey from Interlaken through the Lauterbrunnen valley and up to Wengen is one of the most breathtaking and dramatic train journeys in Switzerland.
Attractions in the Region
Attractions nearby include Murren and the Schilthorn; the picturesque village of Grindelwald and the imposing Eiger; Lauterbrunnen and its dramatic waterfalls; the bustling town of Interlaken and beyond the emerald lakes of Brienzersee and Thunersee where lake streamers provide a day out to the far reaches of the lakes, including the characterful village of Iseltwald and the town of Thun. Within easy travelling distance of Interlaken is the village of Meiringen (of Sherlock Holmes fame) and the Ballenburg museum. Other attractions include a scenic day trip on the goldenpass express train to Montreux via Gstaad or visiting the historic city of Berne with its many clock towers and array of shops and boutiques under covered arcades. Train, boat and postal bus provide excellent public transport and english is widely spoken in the region, making public transport easy and enjoyable.

The village provides a range of facilities and services - hotel restaurants, tea rooms, banks, ski shops and outdoor clothing/activity shops, CO-OP supermarket, bakery, butcher and cheese shop, chemist, grocer, souvenir and electrical shop, cinema and churches (including english church). In summer, activities include swimming, tennis, walking, mountain biking, paragliding, ice climbing, mini golf, mountaineering and folklore/cultural events. In winter, activities include skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice hockey, curling, nordic walking, mountain climbing and sledging. The village is host to the famous Lauberhorn world cup downhill and slalom races in January each year.
Skiing Information:
Wengen is ideally placed to provide easy access to the Jungfrau ski region which provides skiing and snowboarding for all levels and consists of 3 main areas - (1) Kleine Scheidegg - Mannlichen which is accessed by either cable car or train from Wengen with a number of black, red and blue runs back to the village as well long runs down to Grindelwald; (2) Grindelwald - First area, located above Grindelwald providing long blue and red runs; and (3) Murren - Schilthorn which provides some spectacular scenic skiing. Beginners are well served by the nursery slopes in Wengen and experts and thrill seekers can try out the black runs from the Lauberhorn down to Wengen following the course of the famous world cup downhill and slalom races.
