This is an ideal ‘escape from it all’ relaxing holiday location. The south facing farmhouse is a spacious property in an elevated position at the end of a quiet village lane. It has panoramic views over the French countryside, culminating with the fantastic backdrop of the snow capped Pyrenees. A converted farmhouse, with 3 double bedrooms, a spacious living room with dining table, open fire and TV, video, DVD, large kitchen diner, and a bathroom with separate wc. Outside you can relax in the extensive enclosed garden and orchard, or on the patio/sun terrace with its 15ft splash pool and BBQ. Your days can be filled doing as much or as little as you like. There are lovely walks and cycle routes from the house itself, a short (8km) car ride takes you to the local towns of Maubourguet or Lembeye with restaurants, markets and supermarkets, and longer journeys (1-2 hours) allow you to see the beauty of the Pyrenees National Park, the Atlantic beaches, Lourdes and the Adour valley.

Maubourguet is 8km away with weekly market, large supermarket, banks, and wide choice of restaurants. Marciac is a beautiful town 15km away and hosts the international jazz festival in August and lake with water sports. Vic en Bigorre 15km with a huge Saturday market. Local wine at Madiran with wine tasting. Lourdes ‘the city of miracles’ is only 45 mins drive. Paucity centre 45 mins with its Châteaux & shopping. Spanish border 45 mins drive. The Pic du Midi high in the mountains is just over an hours drive with the stunning scenery of the Pyrenees National Park. Cycling, walking and leisurely drives allow you to explore the beauty of the surroundings both near the gite, and a little further afield. Notes: Children have a wonderful time here, as there is lots of space to play both inside and outside the property. The garden is extensive, and reaches up into woodlands and perfect den building areas, with a small area prepared for enjoying the views at the top of the garden. We have around a dozen fruit trees, you can put the hammock beneath them to enjoy the shade, or enjoy the ripened produce if visiting at the right time of year. The property is mostly on one level, but wheelchair users may experience difficulty with a single step between the sun lobby/double bedroom and kitchen, and also 2 steps on entering the property from the drive. Logs for the open fire & wood burning stove are available. We ask you not to smoke in the house, or bring pets for the comfort of all our guests.

Our holiday in Maison West, Vidouze

We spent a very relaxing holiday in this gite, enjoying the excellent facilities and the beautiful unspoilt area. We hired a car at Pau airport and used it to explore the area. Having never visited this part of France before we were pleased to find that there was plenty to see. The owners had left lots of information for us about local services and places to eat, shop and visit.
Some days we spent lazing in the sun reading books, trying out the splash pool and wandering around the grounds (where we even saw wild deer) and admiring the beautiful countryside views. The gite had a range of bikes to use when exporing the local lanes. Nearby we tasted and bought the local Madiran wine. In the evenings we cooked on the barbeque and then relaxed in front of the log fire, watching satellite TV and planning our next day.
Some days we drove further away, such as to Lourdes, an interesting town which is only an hour away. The Pyrenees were beautiful and we enjoyed touring and admiring the spectacular mountain scenery. Other days we headed north and visited fascinating little towns and villages. We also browsed around various local markets and found local shops and restaurants.
The gite was well equipped with everything we needed, clean, very spacious, and in a peaceful countryside area.
I would recommend Maison West for families with children, or for visitors of any age who enjoy sightseeing in a traditional French country area and who are looking for a place to relax and get away from it all.
