Notes: The chateau is in the lovely bastide market town of Lalinde, 50 metres from the village square, yet it 'stands with its feet in the river' and one feels as if you are away from it all. There is a terrace that runs along the front of the chateau overhanging the river, where guests can enjoy breakfast or lovely summer lunches or even romantic dinners under the stars (upon request) . There is a beautiful small infinity pool with loungers where you can relax and enjoy the lovely summer's weather of the Dordogne. For golfers, there are no fewer than nine excellent golf courses in the immediate area. The black oak forests and rolling hills of the Dordogne valley are ideal for serious as well as casual hikers or cyclists, with a wide range of other market towns and bastides to visit, historic sites, some of the best wine estates in France, horse riding tours and eco-tourism. A train runs through the village that can take you to the World Heritage city, Bordeaux for the ballet or opera.

Activities: The experienced traveller can become jaded with superlatives used to attract visitors. Chateau Lalinde needs none. Situated on the Dordogne River, it is the perfect place for whatever event or activity holiday you are planning - or just for total relaxation in a stunning setting. Renting the chateau gives you a perfect base for: * a golfing holiday * canoeing on the Dordogne * hiking * cycling * fishing * to explore the area's history and pre-history * to enjoy wine tasting * sample some of the best food in France * as a venue for a small conference or seminar * for intensive residential courses * a family reunion * a wedding party * an incentive get-away for employees * a board of directors’ meeting or retreat * team building workshops You name the reason, the Chateau Lalinde is the ideal location for you.

There is a legend in the Dordogne that goes like this: When the Creator had made the earth and the mountains and the rivers and the plants and animals and the First Man and First Woman, he was pleased with his work. And like any creator of beautiful things, he wanted to add the last touch to make it perfect. So he sent an angel to the earth with a big bag of precious stones and instructed him to scatter the gem stones all over the earth. Wherever the stones fell, a beautiful chateau would appear and serve as homes for Man and Woman.

The angel started over Russia, scattering a handful of the precious stones here and there. He then flew over Eastern Europe, again scattering a handful here and there. When he flew over Germany and Austria, he felt a little more generous -- as the bag was also starting to feel heavy and the sun was setting in the west. Next he flew over France, and, getting a little tired, he stumbled over a sun ray, spilling half his bag of gem stones over the Loire valley. Now only the most precious stones were left. And that was when he flew over the lovely Dordogne River. He thought it so beautiful and worthy of the very best, that he decided to empty the entire bag of precious stones along the length of the Dordogne Valley. And the most beautiful little gem landed on the edge of the water in Lalinde….

A classy paradise

Lekker Brisbane, Australia
Review Submitted: March 30, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
Chateau Lalinde is possibly the most exquisite fairytale castle on the Dordogne with each bedroom having its own distinct an beautiful décor. Most top rated places offer a warm and friendly environment, but the owner of Chateau Lalinde makes you feel as though it is your own home. The location is superb for spending days ( I wish we had weeks!) exploring the region with its bastide towns, its wine tourism, canoe and kayak rides and grand chateaux. The town of Lalinde, with its market place is a real joy. The breakfasts were so sumptuous that it felt important to photograph them before eating because of the fear that nobody back home would believe our tales. The owner also cooked for us and one can not describe how delightful that was. Her extensive knowledge of the local wines was an education it itself. This is a place to return to time and again and we are already planning our next visit.

Review of Stay at Chateau Lalinde

Roy & Elizabeth Verteillac , Aquitaine, France
Review Submitted: August 29, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Deciding on somewhere to stay for your 40th Wedding Anniversary is always going to be difficult. Things are made easier if you already live in France, in the Dordogne, but complicated by the wealth of Chateaux and Hotels to choose from. Occasionally in life though you manage to make the right decision and things work out just about perfectly. Our choice of the Chateau Lalinde proved to be one of those all too rare occasions.

Do not be put off by the unpreposessing entrance to the Chateau at the end of a side street in the attractive little market town of Lalinde. Beyond the door lies a delightful residence and a warm welcome from the present owner Wilna. Wilna's eclectic tastes are reflected throughout the property. It's furnishings, books, artwork and elegance give you that feeling of being somewhere very special and you are quickly at home. You will have the run of the place. Choose from comfortable salons, the lovely pool area, the dining room or the terraces. All have that fabulous view of the River Dordogne and the bridge into Lalinde. The river was placid whilst we were there and scores of swans paraded gently beneath us. It can on occasions be a torrent Wilna told us.

Our bedroom was a dream. Spacious and comfortable with large bathroom and even larger tub! To the side we overlooked the pool area, to the front across the river and upstream to the bridge. We even had our own small tower room, again with views to the river and perfect for a quiet read. We enjoyed the most delightful of late breakfasts on the terrace, Chateau Lalinde is not the place to do anything in too much of a hurry! Not everything was perfect though, we did not stay long enough, the weather was a little unkind and I do wish we had asked Wilna to prepare an evening meal for us on that fabulous terrace overlooking the river.

Chateau La Linde the perfect getaway

RikClaire London
Review Submitted: August 25, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Chateau La Linde has absolutely breathtaking views of the river and is a great luanching pad to see the many sights of the area.

It was a treat to wake up every morning to see a hundred or so swans in front us while we had our coffee and breakfast out on the balcony. The town is literally on the doorstep and so we could get a true sense for the local culture and we were lucky enough to catch a festival in the square and both market days.

The Chateau itself is a beautiful building and felt like a home away from home. We couldnt ask for a more lovely place to stay and will definately be returning.
