Beauclaveau is a small hamlet 3.5km from the pretty town of Mareuil which has all the amenities you are likely to need, inc. bank, supermarket, bars/restaurants, butcher, bakers, doctor, dentist, post office, garage, various other shops & a small market on Tues. Riberac (20km), has larger supermarkets, greater variety of shops and restaurants & a large famous market on Friday. A further 10km south is Lac Jemaye, a beautiful lake with white sandy beaches, picnic areas, cafe/restaurants and various water sports. 20km south east of Mareuil is the picturesque town of Brantome, surrounded by the river Dronne, with prehistoric caves and abbey. To the south is Perigueux (45km) with its medieaval old quarter & magnificent domed cathedral. Also in easy reach are the vineyards of Bergerac & Bordeaux and Cognac, with its famous distilleries worth a visit at 70km. Angouleme with its ramparts & many shops is 35km to the north. Countryside Culture and Cuisine a perfect combination.

    All linen and towels included in rental rates, fuel incl during summer months only.
    (£10 per person per night for 7th/8th guest)
  • 25% deposit required at the time of booking . £200 per week or part week, returnable security deposit payable for breakages, damages or unreasonable cleaning. This can be paid at the time of booking or with final payment 8 weeks before vacation starts and will be returned direct to your bank account or by cheque within 7 days of departure. For bookings made within 8 weeks of arrival, the full amount is required at the time of booking. All deposit and balance payments to be made to our nominated UK account. In the event of cancellation, deposits will only be refunded if we are able to re-book the property, therefore guests are strongly advised to take out adequate cancellation insurance. Travel insurance is also recommended.

Bedroom 1 (Upstairs). A beautiful room overlooking one of two orchards on the property. This room catches all the morning sun. Bedroom 2 (Upstairs). A light double room with view overlooking the front garden and gated driveway. (You may occasionally see the farmer walking cows to the field) Bedroom 3 (Downstairs). This room overlooks the pool and far reaching view and waking up here is the perfect start to your day. All bedrooms are well furnished with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space.

Relax: Water sports are available along the banks of the river Dronne at various locations.Kayaks and Canoes can be easily hired. There are two golf courses within 30 minutes, 9 hole at Aubeterre & 18 hole at Perigueux. There is also an excellent 18 hole course at Cognac. Within our grounds we have a large area in which to practice your golf swing, clubs and balls available. You will find many relaxing short walks in the area and we can provide picnic equipment for a longer day out. The surrounding countryside is perfect for cycling as it is not too hilly and there are many quiet country lanes.(3 bikes available on site) The area is frequented and favoured by many artists, with perfect light and a variety of subjects.

Taste: You will find a multitude of excellent restaurants ranging from quick snacks to fine dining in and around the villages and towns of the region, including Riberac known as the capital of foie gras. Other specialities include wild mushrooms, walnuts and also the truffle. The fresh fish in the area is superb and don't forget to try the moules. Raouls in Bertric Buree has an excellent reputation. One of the main features of the balmy summer evenings is the free outdoor live music sessions held at local cafes throughout the area. Just relax with a beer or glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere.

Explore: Markets are a big attraction for visitors, the best being in Angouleme, Perigueux and Riberac. There is also a large market in Chalais (40mins) on Monday. There are many fine Chateaux and Churches for you to explore as well as historic medieaval towns with pretty cobbled market squares. You will find excellent shopping in the larger towns also good antique shops, and vide greniers throughout the season. Visit the vineyards at St.Emilion and many others around Bordeaux and Bergerac or the famous distilleries at Cognac. You cannot fail to find plenty to do here if you have the energy, if not just relax by the pool, you are on holiday !

Maison Bleu is in a beautiful location with stunning views along and over the valley. It is very quiet and has extensive outdoor space (lawns and orchards). The house is extremely spacious, comfortable, homely, well maintained and immaculately clean. All the rooms are of a good size and thoughtfully furnished with comfy beds and lots of cupboard and wardrobe space. The (4) central rooms are large and means the house can easily accomodate the maximum number of people without you feeling on top of each other.This was also the best equipped house we've ever stayed in (by a mile), with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, lots of board games, books and DVDs, as well as garden games, bikes and swimming pool kit. There was more than enough to keep the children occupied in and outside the house with the big, safe and beautifully maintained swimming pool a particular positive.
The area immediately around the house is excellent for scenic walks and bicycling and there are a number of extremely pretty market towns and villages nearby. There are various more specific attractions further afield.
The (English) owners live next door which we found a real bonus. They were extremely kind, friendly, thoughtful and unobtrusive and provided any help we needed.
I cannot fault any aspect of the setting, house or garden and would have no hesitation in recommending a visit to Maison Bleu if you are considering a holiday in this area. We were there for 3 weeks and were very sad to leave as we felt so very much at home!

A home from home with many extras

We have no hesitation in recommending this property for holiday.

The house was clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped (bed linen and towels beautifully laundered).

The grounds, pool area, garden games and bikes provided activities for our whole party (parents with teenagers and grandparents).

The owners made us feel very welcome and were friendly, helpful,and obliging but in no way intrusive.

We had a great holiday in a relaxing environment.

Best House our family has stayed in

We have been going to this part of the FR for 10 years and since we have 4 children (10, 7, 4.4 and 1.5) and have one main 3 week holiday a year we do a lot of research before we pay our deposit. This is the best property we have stayed in and we have had the best holiday ever.

The house is pretty, with cool rooms at night so everyone slept well. There is pleny of space in the house and upstairs there is internet access, sky, dvd and video for when it rains. The kitchen had everything we needed and was easy to keep clean (loved the fresh linen).

Outside was equally excellent. The pool was secure, clean, warm, deep and inviting and David (the owner always put the cover on at night so we kept the warmth in).

The grounds were great for the children to run about and the new swings that have just been put in were an focus for all the children when they were not in the pool.

My only reservation before we took this property let was having the owners on site (we've been there before and it doesn't always work). With this property it was actually a bonus as we never saw them at all unless we seeked them out to ask them a question such as "my daughters have blocked the loo by using a baby wipes and not the toilet paper" (David fixed this no problem and we didnt get charged).

For my family of 6, for the money we paid I can only rate this property as excellent and as a result would be prepared to act as a reference for it.
