A Fantastic Time

Polish-English team Liverpool, UK
Review Submitted: November 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
As detailed on the internet site, the property is very well equipped, clean and perfectly situated. The area is very quiet with fantastic views and was an ideal base for our holiday.
The temperature was starting to drop when we visited, but we found that the cottage was very warm in the evening and the wood log burner provided a cosy environment to sit and relax.
We decided not to book a 4x4 and found if you drive sensible and not too adventurous a normal car is sufficient.
We had 6 nights at the cottage and used this as our base so we could visit the South West corner of Iceland.
We would highly recommend this cottage to family and friends who wish to visit Iceland.

We had a wonderful time.

We found the property easily and it is situated in a beautiful location not far from Hvalfjord (whale fjord) which is stunning. It was very clean and well-maintained. It had everything you needed for a holiday. There were lovely walks in the area and the cottage has a large garden. There is also a delightful cafe/shop down the road by a lake. The owner was very helpful and friendly and we would certainly recommend this property to others.

We used the cottage as a base to travel to various destinations. We visited the museum Borgarnes, Thingvellir national park, Gullfoss, Geysir, Skálholt, Stokkseyri (museum not recommended), Blue Lagoon, Keri? Explosion Crater, Hfnarfjordur, the bridge between two continents, Grindavík, Reyjanes penninsula & geothermal area, Reykjavik, Keflavik - I can't remember them all! A lot of the attractions are free and it was nice to have the freedom to explore places in our time, rather than being on an organised tour. A would advise hiring a 4x4 though. You won't need one to get to the cottage but if you're planning on touring, it is essential.

We had an amazing time snowmobiling on the Langjökull glacier and whale watching in Reykjavik where we saw a humpbacked whale, minke whales, dolphins and puffins.

We spent a week in the cottage and spent our final day in a hotel in Rekjavik because the cottage had been fully booked. We were glad we had stayed in the cottage for the week rather than the hotel because the cottage was in a more picturesque area and had fresher smelling water! Reykjavik is supplied with water heated from the geothermal area so it smells sulpherous. I don't think I'd have enjoyed showering in that for a week!

I hope this review encourages you to book this cottage. Iceland is a magical place and you will have a wonderful holiday.

Family of four with two children aged 12 and 10.

Perfect Location

FOD Forest of Dean, UK.
Review Submitted: March 24, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
The cottage is clean, well maintained and as described. Everything you need to enjoy the holiday is there and the location means that most of the popular tourist attractions are within easy driving distance although a 4 wheel drive is recommended during the winter months. We stayed in March for a week and were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights twice from the cottage !
The nearby lake looked fabulous in it's frozen state and great views and walking were possible just a short drive away on the south side of Hvalfjord.
Difficult to fault the cottage or it's location in any way as long as you don't mind being well away from the shops and town living !
We look forward to re-visiting during the summer months sometime so that we can explore the glacial and more mountainous areas.

As lovely as it looks

Review Submitted: August 27, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This was a great place to stay for a family visiting Iceland. The setting is beautiful and the house is clean, spacious, well-equipped and comfortable. The washing machine and space to dry things would be useful in wet weather - although we were lucky with beautiful sunshine most of the week. The children enjoyed the large garden and deck area. We used the cottage as a base to explore the south-west corner of the country, making day trips south as far as the Blue Lagoon, north around the Snaefellsnes peninsula (quite a long whole day drive) and east to Þingvellir. Most of the most visited tourist attractions are within a day's drive and even in July these were relatively uncrowded. There was also walking, horseriding and other activities available more locally. There are no supermarkets immediately nearby but several possibilities en route to Reykjavik and other towns.

The owners were helpful and contact was easy. We would certainly recommend this property to friends. We had a wonderful holiday - looking forward to going back one day.

schöne Zeit

MmeIceland Darmstadt, Deutschland
Review Submitted: October 14, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
