Beaches:
There are a number of beaches nearby, the nearest being at La Marina or at Guardamar both about 15 minutes drive away. All the beaches in the area are of a good standard and many have restaurants and bars adjacent for refreshments. When venturing to the local beaches always take note of the current bathing safety advice signified by the flags on the beach.
Golf:
There are several Golf courses available within a short drive the neaqrest being La Finca at Algorfa (5 mins). La Finca is a beautiful course with well maiicured fairways and greens and the restaurant in the clubhouse is particularly recommended.
Slightly further afield there are courses at Campoamor, Las Ramblas and Villamartin all in the Orihuela Costa area (20 mins) and La Marquesa in the Rojales/Quesada area (15 mins). There are others in the Elche and Alicante areas, recommended is El Plantio, close to Alicante airport, another well maintained course with excellent clubhouse facilities. I have played at La Finca, El Plantio and Villmartin and recommend all three in that order although Campoamor looks like an excellent venue which wil be on my next visit!
Local Village:
The village of Catral is a short stroll away and there you will find bars, restaurants and shops to cater for virtually every need. Restaurants range from traditional Spanish, Pizzas, Chinese and even English. The bars also range from traditional Spanish and alongside have sprung a handful of British owned bars some of which provide entertainments such as cabaret, quiz nights, karaoke etc. The Ice cream parlour on the main street is particularly recommended - according to the junior Fittons!
There is a small supermarket 'Hiper Ber' in the town which stocks the usual range of products as well as fresh bread, meat and fish and several local shops for meat, fish, groceries etc., though they are not always obvious outside of normal opening hours but exploring the little streets around the centre of town may reward you with high quality local meat, fish or pastries! Opening times are often mornings up till lunchtime (but not always) and often late afternoon/early evening (but not always)
