Visitors to The Borders can enjoy some of the UK’s best walking, cycling, riding, fishing, shooting and golf in the area’s spectacular, unspoilt countryside ranging from rolling hills and rugged moorland, to gentle valleys and the 25 miles of golden sands that make up the Heritage coastline. Here there is excellent sailing and surfing and picturesque fishing villages offering wonderful seafood. Nearby are a number of historic buildings to visit including the palatial Floors Castle, Abbotsford the former home of Sir Walter Scott, Alnwick Castle the location for Hogwart’s School in the Harry Potter films and Lindisfarne, a tiny island only accessible at low tide with a ruined 11th Century priory and a beautiful castle. The Borders also offer excellent shopping with independent retailers selling delicious local produce, pottery, glass, silverware, art work and the beautiful tweeds, tartans, cashmere and other woollens for which the area is famous.
