The Gers is still deeply rural, life is relaxed, the pace leisurely - the ideal base for gentle walks through beautiful countryside or a visit to the sleepy bastide villages which dot the area. Larresingle is perhaps the most perfect but any one could be the hidden gem that becomes your favourite. Stroll the narrow cobbled streets of Condom and Auch. The area is renowned for its food - and the longevity of its inhabitants! - prunes, cherries, garlic, melons, wine, Armagnac and the local tipple Floc (visit the producer in the village) and above all its duck and goose. You will dine wonderfully well, be it the local hostelry, La Table des Cordeliers in Condom (highly recommended) or with a Michelin star at Le Square in Astaffort . There's Parc Walibi at Agen for the children; ping pong, boules, swings at Déhès. The chateau is only 10 minutes drive from the World Heritage Site church at La Romieu, on the ancient pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. Feel inspired with every step...

A fantastic holiday in every way

Review Submitted: October 3, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Every time I turn on the computer and see my holiday photo of Chateau Dehes surrounded by sunflowers I want to return again to what has to be one of the most secret, but finest, locations in France. We spent another wonderful week there in July, not doing a huge amount but enjoying the fantastic atmosphere and surroundings and returned home refreshed and looking forward to our next trip. There are a large number of local places of interest to visit which are listed in the various guides however we were also more than happy just sitting and talking in the square in La Romieu eating at Le Cardinal where we found rustic but tasty French food from what appears to be a deceptively simple menu. An evening at La Table des Cordeliers in Condom exceeded any expectations given by the Michelin star but was made all the more atmospheric as a massive summer storm arrived and echoed around the crypt dining room, to which we had been hurriedly evacuated having started the evening with drinks on the terrace!

We enjoyed driving and cycling around the area as each corner turned provides a different but equally inspiring view. With no time constraints and a relaxed holiday feeling, exploring off the beaten track resulted in some fantastic finds and a couple of superb picnic locations. However, some of our favourite days we spent at Dehes either sitting in the cool of the salon or reading in the peaceful sunshine with a glass or two of wine while intermittently staring up at the magnificent building, imagining times past and wondering who on earth wouldn’t want to capture this spectacular castle.

Absolutely perfect!

We have just spent an amazing week at Chateau Dehes. The accommodation is superb; every little thing that you could imagine wanting/needing on a self catering holiday is supplied, from wonderful cook books and big comfy beds to badminton nets and rackets. The Chateau itself is breathtaking and such a fantastic place to explore. The surrounding countryside is stunning, although we were reluctant to venture out of the Chateau's grounds because they are absolutely beautiful and so tranquil! The sunrises and sunsets are lovely and I haven't seen so many stars in years...magical! The pool is a good size and decent depth so perfect for both adults and children. The local villages have wonderful bakeries, cafes and restaurants run by very friendly people.

It's impossible to cover all the lovely things about this place, especially when literally everything has been carefully thought of by the owners so that you are left wanting for nothing; they have created the perfect balance between modern comfort and original charm.

So, if you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday in a magical setting then this is definitely the place to go. I can't imagine finding anywhere else as enchanting as Chateau Dehes, it's a true gem.

Chataeu Dehes - Exceptional in every way

Review Submitted: September 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Chateau Dehes is a truly outstanding castle surrounded by the most enchanting countryside. Arriving after a long drive from London your first impressions, as you glimpse the chateau through the rolling hills, are truly magical, a feeling that remains with you for the rest of your holiday...With the kids rushing to be the first in the pool, the adults can start preparing for a truly relaxing holiday that just seems to tick all the boxes.

The sheer quality of the chateau, the grounds and the amenities are as good as anywhere I’ve personally visited and surpass many supposed 5* hotels I’ve stayed in...The kids, all six of them, never seem to tire of the place with the opportunity to swim, play badminton, table tennis, boules or just simply explore the surrounding countryside.

The most important aspect of the whole place to me is that it truly feels like a ‘home from home’ and you can instantly unwind and forget all of the pressures of everyday life. If you can drag yourselves away from the chateau there are many places worth visiting with local markets and real food in abundance...an absolute must being the local produce from the patisserie at La Romieu, where the croissants and bread taste like should, but so rarely do nowadays.

No review would do justice without mentioning Jennifer (the lucky owner) who is always helpful and absolutely charming to deal with...she has also somehow managed to find the perfect guardian, Jean-Pierre, who is always there to help, full of fascinating anecdotes but is never intrusive.

I can’t recommend Chateau Dehes enough and the fact that I’ve stayed there three years on the trot speaks for itself.

Just perfect!

We had a wonderful stay at Déhès. It's a very relaxing and peaceful place where the children could play around safely. In the middle of the countryside, there are some nice views on the field and on the village all around. The house was perfect and comfortable with a range of nice pieces of furniture, and the charm of historic place. The large rooms, with nice decor, provided us all the space we could need. And the swimming pool + garden were very well maintained . I want to tell also that the person in charge of the maintenance was very nice and helpful for every questions we could have regarding the property or the neighbourhood. In conclusion, we would definitely recommend this property for perfect holidays in this sunny part of France.
