Nice house, shame about beach!

The house was really clean and presentable, well equipped and very peaceful. I got woke up one night by the sound of an owl on the tree outside, it was lovely. We have stayed in some of the finest villa's across the world and we are happy to say this was equal to most of them considering the area and the fact that it is in Cornwall. The heating was problematic but Jeff was quick to sort it out.
The beach, though, was a different matter. It is undergoing some kind of renovation along with tidal fortifications and boy does it show, the whole area is filled with jobsworth dayglo coated goons who clearly get paid to sit around in their depressing little huts and tell people that they cannot walk on the road, what a waste of money. The sad fact is that we could not see anyone actually doing anything workwise, picture this.. we walk down to the sea with our small dog, big signs everywhere telling owners to keep their dogs on a lead as ours is then just at the security cabin a woman is there chatting merrily away with a dayglo while her big dogs are running around causing havoc including setting about our dog. We had all on to get them away and I pointed out that they should have been on a lead, pointless, the dayglo did absolutely nothing. Anyway that aside, you have to negotiate past the earthworks which are extremely ugly and down onto the beach proper, once you have cleaned the dog poo off your shoes that is. what you are left with is a 15m wide 1 mile long strip of sand with glorious views out to sea and the ugliest views looking inland, such a shame.
Avoid Par altogether, its like going through the dark ages..
So to sum up, if you want a good base to travel around the county from then this is the house for you, especially if you like your privacy and tranquility.. if you want to be near a beach that you can walk and sunbathe on go to the north coast towns because until the council pull their finger out and actually build more than just the visitors centre I am afraid you will be disappointed with Carlyon beach.

Owner's Response: Re: 'Nice house shame about beach'
We were delighted with the favourable comments made by our client regarding The Pavillion. In common with everyone who has stayed there since we made it available for letting in April 2008, they once again confirmed that we have managed to achieve what we set out to do for our visitors, which is provide comfortable, quiet accomodation in a private setting with lovely rural views. The 'problematic' heating was easily resolved with a new battery in the thermostat remote control so happily nothing was inherently wrong. We were somewhat taken aback by the criticism of the local beach as it is the very first time anyone has made negative comment. Although we are not responsible for matters not directly related to our property, given the extensive criticism in the review, we feel some factual clarification is necessary. The beach referred to (along with a number of others) is within walking distance of the property, but cannot not seen or heard from The Pavillion. The beach is not owned by the council, it is privately owned. The owners are engaged in a protracted planning wrangle hence nothing is going on there, except to provide private security at the entrance to the sands. There is a fenced off area at one end of the beach, but as was stated by our client, there is a mile long walk along the sands with wonderful sea views. (Dog loos provided) Our client's issue seems to be mainly with his experiences with the beach security and other dog owners, but they obviously affected his overall impression of the beach which, whilst perhaps understandable, is certainly not typical. Had we been asked, we could have advised the client on the other unspoilt coves, harbours and beaches within a very short distance, eg, Charlestown Harbour, a twenty minute stunning walk along the coastal footpath with three majestic tall ships berthed in the harbour, or Polridmouth beach with its walk up around to the lighthouse onto Gribben Head, Wild, remote and incredibly beautiful. We do provide printed local information for our visitors but we are always on hand for further suggestions or assistance. We hope that prospective clients will not be deterred as our clients viewpoint does seem to be completely at odds with our Visitors book full of wonderful comments about the property and it's location. Indeed his own comment in our visitors book made no mention of the beach at all.
