Burgau holiday apartment: Burgau

The last week of July my family and I shared a wonderful holiday in the Domusiberica complex. The facilities on site were excellent. Large clean pool with a huge grassy area with play house/slides etc for young kids. Entertained our year+1/2 old perfectly during the day. Nice little restaurant/cafe with modestly priced snacks and full drinks selection. The mojitos went down a storm each afternoon! Although we did not use the gym / sauna, I was told by another guest that they were very good.
The apt itself was immaculately clean. Very well equipped and just as described. All you would expect from a 4star complex property.
Directions from the airport were spot on and easy to negotiate. The entire booking process was made very simple with prompt and efficient communication from the resort representative, Sean. He met us on arival and showed us around the apt. He made himself available at all times to answer any queries and was most helpful.
Burgau can only be described as a little gem. A nice peaceful easy paced sleepy fishing village with an unspoilt and uncrowded beach. I would highly recommend the Anchora restaurant at the bottom of the hill. It's family run and the one thing that struck us was the fact that the hostess knew practically all the guests. They had obviously been before and returned. We did too! The food was excellent. The veal and monkfish were outstanding!
Nice seafood in pretty much all the other restaurants too.
In Burgau you definitely need a car. The local supermarket is quite basic and a trip to Lagos is imperative for all your provisions (just on the way into this town is a large hypermarche).
It is also worth a spin further down the coast to Bispo which has excellent surfing and equipment can be rented at a beachside hut.
Further again is Sagres which is an interesting little village with a couple of pottery shops along the roadside as you go there.
Lagos is more suited to those looking for lively night life. We met friends there for dinner/drinks and a cab home was about €15.
12km from Lagos is also a zoo. It filled an overcast morning nicely for us. It was perfect for our little one but older kids might be looking for the more hardcore jungle animals like lions/tigers/elephants, which it lacks.
All in all we had a fantastic week. The weather was wonderful and I would add that the cool atlantic breeze at night was a gift! I highly recommend Burgau and the Domusiberica apts.
