Photos and Description of this Nice holiday apartment Stunning south-facing top floor apartment with iPod dock, WiFi & fine linen.

Our huge 75m2 apartment in the historic port of Nice is south-facing, quiet and beautiful, yet minutes from several beaches, Old Town, tram, airport bus and train. Our top floor apartment has a lovely feel; it has art on the walls, great music on the iPod dock, a divine wooden bed with fine linen and a vast library of books. The apartment dates from the 1880s (the original floor tiles remain) and is very charming. There are two big bedrooms; the first is really romantic and has a tempurpedic mattress, antique lights and four metre high ceilings. The second bedroom is larger and doubles as a study complete with ADSL WiFi access, guidebooks, history books and a small DVD collection. The living room opens on to the fantastically well equipped kitchen. We have a 1930s wooden table for eight, Roche Bobois sofa and fireplace. More photos are available on request, or you can check out our personal website - do a search for 'rueantoinegautier'. Or just email us for details!

We are so well located right in Nice's historic port and antiques area, with the Old Town, long public beach and market minutes away. The port is so charming, as is most of Nice. It's quite an affluent area, but also eccentric as you'd expect from a place with 300 days of sun a year with pavement cafes, fishing boats and very cool restaurants. A tram connects all of Nice 100m away from our tranquil apartment. The airport is 20 minutes away by bus and costs just EUR4. It really is so easy. From the train station (5 mins on the tram) or bus station (3 mins walk) you can zip to Monaco, Cannes, Antibes etc... or into the hills and mountains for walking and skiing. Or walk along Nice's promenade or hit its small secluded beaches. As it's the South of France it really is unlimited, there is so much to do! As travel journalists ourselves we have thousands of guidebooks on our shelves - we've written two books about the Riviera which are on the bookshelf. Pay parking is available in Nice port

Notes: We are freelance travel journalists which is why we rent out our lovely home. Our top floor apartment has music on the iPod dock, a divine wooden bed with fine linen and a vast library of books on the bookshelf. Heating in January and February comes courtesy of a large fireplace and two portable radiators; one for each bedroom. This apartment is used as our home for a few months each year. It thus has a lived in feel in parts with our art on the wall and cook books on display; if you are uncomfortable with this then it may not be the place for you, utterly charming through the apartment is. The property is best rented by the week so you can stock up from the market, visit Antibes and Monaco (both 20 minutes away) and settle down with a book and glass of wine. It really is beautiful. Board games include Monopoly and Scrabble, while we also have packs of cards, backgammon, Jenga, Risk and chess.

Testimonials: Stayed here in Aug '07 - the hottest time to come! Everyone very friendly, all speak English too, and restaurants not overly expensive. Lots of restaurants in Port Area. Apartment completely charming! Made use of oven, cooking bits but not scrabble. Very enjoyable week. Thank you. D. Martin Tonbridge, UK/ A very nice apartment, thank you. The best beaches are just around the corner of bl Frank Pilatte which has very clear water. We had a good time and all was perfect for us. Detlef, Hamburg, Germany/ This is the most charming apartment we have ever been in. You must come! Wonderful cooker (better than ours at home), comfy beds, big table for drinks and snacks. All presented in a perfect package ready to open and enjoy! Simone and Nigel, Chester, UK/ Fantastic apartment, friendly owners (if you are lucky enough to meet them!) and an incredible city. We're already planning our next visit! Søren, Bergen, Norway

More testimonials: I've been to Nice many times - my recent stay was definitely the best! I really enjoyed being near the port, within a 5-min walk of the Old Town, but in a truly Nicois neighbourhood. Terrific sunny place to call our own for the week. Roxanne, Hoboken, New Jersey/ was back since yesterday evening and now missing your flat! All was really great!! A very special atmosphere - when we're arrived, we felt at home! We cooked in the kitchen and had so much fun for this 4 days! Thank you very much for all! The location is also very good, it's very quiet at night (not like in the old town) and during the day the flat is filled with sun! It's really not like a holiday apartment! Sandra, Germany

More testimonials/DVDs: I wanted to thank you for allowing myself and Donna to stay at your apartment, we had a fantastic time in and around Nice. There is so much to see and do on the Cote d'Azur that we hardly scratched the surface in the four days we had ... so we have to promise to return again ... and again and again! We decided to head off east and explore Eze, what an amazing place. We also spent a day with all the rich folk in Monaco. I have to say that we both prefer Nice! Thanks again. James Silver, Birmingham, UK In addition to the library we have a collection of around 100 DVDs which guests may use if they bring their own laptop. We have JBL surround speakers for this purpose. The collection includes plenty of Woody Allen, Coen Brothers, romantic comedy, foreign language films, classic action, plus a handful of cartoons of the Ratatouille ilk.

lovely nice apartment

Jo Jo & Co Manchester England
Review Submitted: August 5, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Tristan & Kathryn's apartment is a fantastic base to travel all over the cote d'azur.
My husband and I and the 2 kids (aged 11 & 4 ) had a fab 12 days , the apartment is really well equiped to cook , every type of pan and utensil you can think of , loads of plates turins , cutlery , no worries re the washing up due to the dish washer.
We slept in really comfy beds , the apartment was really cool heat wise , although fans were available .
We were met by Mike who was Tristan's property manager who was really friendly (and fluent french speaker as we are not !!) , the apartment was really clean.
There is no t.v at this apartment which was the first words out of my 4 year olds mouth !!!, this was not a problem there are plenty of games to play , a personalised monpoloy , cards and so on .
The book collection is vast , from the very funny to the very serious , lovely artwork in the kitchen.
The ipod had some of the most fantastic music i have heard in years , Tristan and Kathryn have a great range of music from classical to rock .
we went out for many meals a new Australian place on the port they were fab with kids , we had socca (chick pea pancakes ) at renne socca , lots of pasta places locally to the apartment.
We found the drinks a little pricey at some bars BUT the french are not a beer swilling lot like the English!!!.
Using public transport is very cheap both the train and bus a bit of a squash but it's fine .
You do not need a car.
Local supermarkets were very good and reasonbly priced for items.
The weather in July was baking hot , not a cloud in the sky at all.
I would recommend this apartment to any group , the apartment is on a 3rd floor so you have to be able climb stairs , I started off the hols looking like I needed oxygen ( I am unfit and drive everywere!!!) but at the end of the stay got up the stairs in no time !!
To sum up I would say we had a fab stay in a lovely apartment , that was really clean and well maintained.
Many thanks to Tristan & Kathryn

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Joanne, that is such a nice message. We try to make the place nice and I'm glad you loved it. The book selection changes rapidly, from Ian Fleming and Agatha Christie to latest novels and French guidebooks - glad you enjoyed it! And the games are cool too...Monopoly, Scrabble, Jenga...much more fun than watching TV: although there's a 100-film DVD selection should you want to tune in.

Please come back next year. It's always sunny! Kind regards, Tristan and Kathryn

Wonderful!

missfern Washington, NJ, USA
Review Submitted: July 9, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We had a great experience in Nice, thanks in large part to this wonderful apartment rental. The location was ideal - right off the port, close to the beach and old town, but quiet and residential feeling. The apartment has tons of character, and was clean, comfortable, airy, and spacious. Lots of light from the big windows, and a nice cool breeze at night. Keep in mind that it can get buggy on these summer nights, so you might want to take appropriate preventive action (a natural bug lotion or citronella oil would do it).

Definitely take advantage of the morning food market to prepare your own meals - we ate like royalty without going to a restaurant even once! It was fun to leaf through the cookbooks for ideas...

One recommendation - parking in this neighborhood is really scarce, so we drove up to the Cimiez area (near the Chagall museum) and parked on a residential street. Just left the car for the week and took buses everywhere - no problem!

The apartment is on the third floor, which is an advantage for breezes and views, but it is not accessible for a wheelchair or someone with a physical limitation where stairs are an issue.

We highly recommend this apartment, and many thanks to Tristan for his time and thoughtfulness!! We truly can't wait to come back...

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Melissa, that is so kind. Again, the market and kitchen and cook books seem to be an attraction! I have a map of parking in the area but I would agree: the buses and trams cost just €1 all over the Riviera, there really is no need to hire a car. We have around 15 South of France guidebooks in the apartment for guests to use, which shows how to get to the quiet beaches, hilltop villages and sights with ease.

It's very light and airy too, yet rarely hot in summer. We love it. Just wish we had more time to use it ourselves! Please come back soon, Tristan

Amazing Apartment in Nice!

LisaFoxy Bozeman, MT USA
Review Submitted: March 12, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
This apartment has everything we could have hoped for during our stay in Nice, we can't wait to stay again! It's location is perfect for exploring the city on foot and the neighborhood is lovely - so close to the action and yet amazingly peaceful for a good night's sleep! The apartment's warmth comes not only from the windows letting in lots of sunlight, but the space makes you feel instantly at home and comfortable and the owners were wonderful! We would recommend this spot to anyone who finds themselves in Nice, either just for a short weekend stay or longer, because it has everything you need - including a great kitchen where you can cook up the treats you found at the market!

Owner's Response: Thank you Lisa from Massachusetts, really kind of you! The sun really streams through those windows, especially in winter when you can sunbathe by simply lying on a rug in the living room. The beach around the corner (by the Promenade) is best for a proper soak in the sun. Our bed is actually a tempurpedic one - the mattress is quite expensive but boy is it nice to sleep on! Hope to see you soon, Tristan

If you like to cook in bright open spaces...

Raivo Portland, ME USA
Review Submitted: March 6, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
I have to say I can't think of a more pleasant place to stay in Nice than this apartment. As soon as you walk in you've got the feel of old Nice, with the ancient looking tiles on the floor, the tall ceilings and beautiful old windows. The sun pouring into the bedrooms and every morning is pure bliss. As you walk into the sunny, open living room you notice the kitchen tastefully redone and modern and appointed with anything you could need to cook up a storm. What better way to enjoy the incredible produce and seafood at the Nice markets? The bathroom has been redone too with a modern artistic look, the floor is made of rounded blue beach stones, the shower is a walk-in with a huge rosette and a row of small potted plants on the wall. This apartment feels like home, it's cozy but it has style. It's a block and a half from the port and a short stroll from the incredible restaurants and boutiques of Vielle Nice. And they've provided an ipod dock with a fun selection of music including the likes of Carla Bruni, the Grande Dame of France. There's art on the walls, there are shelves full of novels and guide books for the region, there are two huge and comfortable beds. Rent this apartment, buy a bottle of wine and prepare to relax.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Wow Raivo, many thanks for this review. I've never met you in person but you're already my best friend! We love the place and the iPod certainly gets some use - Carla Bruni is one of the faves certainly, as is Air and Edith Piaf: Vive la France! The novels and non-fiction is there to be read from Paul Theroux to Agatha Christie and John Magus. The Liberation market is pick of the bunch when it comes to shopping, but for a simple seabass or a bream we push guests towards Monoprix on Avenue Jean Medecin, one of the best fishmongers in town. A fish should set you back about EUR8 here. Once again, come again Raivo, buy a bottle of wine and put your feet up! Tristan

Tres Belle!

Lenka Prague
Review Submitted: March 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
My husband and I travel extensively. Rather than stay in hotels, we seek to rent apartments wherever we go. It helps us to really get a feel for the town. We loved staying in this place. It felt like a home away from home. But better! We loved the wacky artworks on the walls (makes a change from some of the more 'sterile' places we have stayed), the brightly coloured rooms and the feeling of space. We came away from Nice feeling rested, refreshed and relaxed, and sadly had to go straight back to work. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to make this place our home, albeit just for a week!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Thanks Lenka, I also rent a lot of apartments rather than stay in hotels; they are more homely and much cheaper too! Some of the art work is original courtesy of our friends in Europe and the States. Some of the cartographical pieces I'm convinced are worth millions but I doubt it somehow!

You're welcome back anytime - you might find that while July and August are lots of fun, it's still very sunny in September and October, as well as from March onwards. Best wishes, T
