Self catering cottage, minutes walk from town centre with an active arts centre and quirky cinema, yet 2 miles from sea. Spacious yet cosy, having lounge/ diner, including a wood burning stove, sun room and small sitting room with sofa bed. A private garden with outside eating area and BBQ, for a relaxing break either summer or autumn. Dorset is an ideal location for a romantic break, rambling with friends, or a family getaway. Nearby, the wonderful Jurassic coast, ideal for fossil hunting and coastal walks, sea fishing and great fish and chips! For gourmets, sample the South West's top class restaurants in Bridport and Lyme Regis and country pubs, as you explore Thomas Hardy's hidden Dorset. Bridport is renowned for its twice weekly market providing a mix of fabulous food, antiques and bricabrac. It has excellent facilities; take in a theatre production at the Arts Centre or a film at the recently renovated Electric Palace cinema, or get fit in the leisure centre or golf course

Bridport is in West Dorset, close to the Jurassic coast, the famous Chesil Beach and the incredible Swannery and Sub tropical gardens at Abbotsbury. The county town, Dorchester, just 12 miles away, long associated with Thomas Hardy, also boasts the Dinosaur & Teddy Bear museums. Charmouth and Lyme Regis are a short bus or drive away, or you could lose yourself in the Great Dorset Maze. Weymouth has a Sea life Centre and other family activities. Nearby there is the Cerne Abbas Giant to see or you could go to the Haynes Motor museum or experience the Fleet Air Arm in Yeovil. For people who love art/crafts/music, there is a thriving arts scene, with many local pubs having regular music gigs. For those who love history, you could take in some historic houses such as Athelhamton or Sherbourne Abbey or the astonishing iron age fort of Maiden Castle. Burton Bradstock beach is great for family fun and the cafe, which is open all year, is the perfect place to recover from a long walk.

Additional information about rental rates

  • To secure booking we expect a deposit of £150. There is also a security deposit of £150 returnable after the holiday assuming no damage has been done.
    We ask that guests leave the property reasonably tidy and would charge if cleaners report substantial mess. We do provide bedlinen, and hand towels but not bath towels.
    We also send full details of how things work in the house and some information about things to do and where to go, in and around Bridport. We also leave some children toys for use by guests.
  • We rent from Friday to Friday for weekly rentals. Although sometimes this can be changed it will depend on other bookings.
    Christmas and New Year bookings will be a t high season rates and will be for 5 or 6 nights depending on how Christmas day falls.

Notes: Parents need to be aware that the stairs are quite steep and small children may require supervision on upper landing as there is no stairgate. There is one step into the front of the house and access from garden with one step via a side entrance. There is a shower room downstairs and the sofa bed is also on the ground so may be suitable for older or disabled visitors.

Great holiday at Cato Cottage

We had a great holiday in this cottage. The property was a good size - especially downstairs with the sun room. The bedrooms were all spacious and comfortable. It was well equipped. Bridport is very convenient for the beaches at Charmouth and West Bay and it is about 10 miles from Lyme Regis.A week was not long enough to explore this area and we will definitely come back. I would recommend this cottage for families.

Lovely character cottage, good sized accommodation, very well equiped, pleasant decor and furnishings, well upkept and very welcoming. Short walk into Bridport town with range ammenities. Excellent holiday cottage near lovely stretch of coastline.
