All payments should be by direct bank transfer and in £ sterling, and transfers must be for the full amount. Plastic wine glasses and tumblers are available for outdoor use (this prevents accidental breakages causing injury). Please do not use any drinking glasses or bottles around the pool area.
  • A welcome pack of milk, water, bread, cheese, butter, wine and fruit juice is included in the rates. We can also arrange for a meal, such as lasagne, to be left for you if your flight is due in late, or for pizzas to be left in the freezer. The owners regularly use the property as a second home, and you are welcome to use any food items left by owners, but please replace before leaving. Airport collection can be arranged, but a car is essential for your stay. Should you have any problems during your stay in our villa, Vincenzo and his family who look after the villa and live locally will be on hand to help you solve them. Vincenzo only speaks Italian and German but he gets by. Vincenzo occasionally grows vegetables in the garden; please do not take anything without asking first. You may, however, take advantage of any fruit which is growing at the time of your visit. Please do not allow young children to trample the vegetables.

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Carovigno, Italy

With British Airways and Easyjet now flying into Bari from Gatwick as well as the Ryanair flights from Stansted, Puglia is becoming more accessible. The region is renowned for its food, with many famous chefs having their roots in the South. Food is taken seriously here, but in the relaxed way of the South, and Carovigno and the surrounding towns offer many opportunities to sample the wonderful food and wine of the region, between relaxing in the sunshine and visiting some of the beautiful towns and villages within easy driving distance.

Staying in: The villa is perfectly located for a quiet holiday within easy reach of the town, which can be seen from the garden and the roof terrace. However, a car is essential.

2 covered terraces offer shade for eating and relaxing. The terrace at the front of the villa was used by the people working the land for eating their lunch, and the curved stone seating benches are still there. Please feel free to use the small cushions in the dining room to make the seats more comfortable. The side terrace is newly built with stone archways, and overlooks the swimming pool - the ideal place to watch the sunsets. The large sitting room has views through two double French doors to the terrace and the pool area. The roof terrace offers the perfect vantage to enjoy a chilled drink and enjoy the sunset.

There is a good selection of DVDs, from old favourites to new, and paperbacks. Also available Nintendo Wii with refundable security deposit. Enquire on booking.

Your surroundings: Part of the villa is well over 100 years old, and was originally built for use during olive harvest. It has been extended to the owners design, incorporating stelle volte stone ceilings in two rooms to echo the ceilings in the existing building and stone archways to the terrace. The area on which the villa stands is a protected zone with unusual traditional houses, each standing on approximately 2 acres of land. The villa is the only property which is inhabited on a regular basis, the other properties only being used at weekends when the owners work their land. The lane on which the villa stands finally ends at a small nursery growing vegetables for local shops. Traffic is minimal.

If you enjoy a game of golf, the area offers the following courses:

San Domenico Golf Course at Savelletri di Fasano. Par 72 6220m.

Acaya Golf Club at Acaya, San Cataldo, Lecce.

Riva dei Tessali Golf Resort at Castellaneta. Par 72 5947m.

Metaponto Golf Club at Metaponto. Par 72 6284m

Olives and other produce: It is reported that 70% of the olive oil in Italy is produced in the Puglia region: if you like olive trees you will love Puglia. These magnificent trees are everywhere. Some of the trees at the villa are mere babies at over 450 years old. There is wonderful freshly grown produce everywhere. You will see locals selling from the boot of their car or the back of their van. Always negotiate - most will expect it. Use the big supermarkets, but once you know your way around try the local speciality shops for cold meats, cheeses, bread, fresh meat, freshly caught fish and freshly made pasta. The anitpasti is a must, but be warned - there will be plenty of it.

To take full advantage of all that Puglia has to offer, you will need to adopt the lifestyle. Rise early, because all the shops other than the large supermarkets will close at 12.30 for a long lunch. They usually open again around 5.30pm. Restaurants stay open late all year round but close 1 day. Most small shops are closed on Sunday

An unbeatable Holiday

Review Submitted: August 1, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Villa Mimosa is the best villa that we have ever stayed in! It is supremely well fitted out and I just can't fault any aspect. The villa is in a great location, secluded but close to Carovigno and plenty of places to visit for short or long visits which give you an instant love of Puglia.
For the inexperienced or seasoned traveller, the friendly helpfulness of all involved is reassuring and helps to make for a very relaxing holiday.
I could go on forever about the weather, villa, Puglia, food, beaches, etc but probably the best comment that I can make is that all of our family were united in our determination to return as soon as possible, but for a longer period!!

A nice place to relax

Review Submitted: September 21, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
Villa Mimosa is a lovely secluded villa, well positioned for exploring Puglia in particular Ostuni, Alberobello, Lecce and the coast.
The villa provides everything you need, the rooms are large and the beds comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped for enjoying meals at the villa if you do not want to drive. The provision of pool towels was appreciated flying Ryanair! The pool is lovely and our three year old grew in confidence with her swimming. The covered terrace is a perfect area for eating outside. The villa is surrounded by olive and fruit trees which is nice but it took a little while to get used to the bare earth surrounding most of the villa, but this is just a personal thing.
Prior to arrival Corinne sent through a brochure with lots of information about the villa and area. Chris and Norman met us when we arrived and it was nice to see a friendly face when we bumped into them in the supermarket.
Overall a nice villa to stay at with all of the facilities you need and good communication and information prior to arrival. The area to the south and west of Ostuni is more picturesque and where you will find more trullis however this is a good location to explore the rest of Puglia.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review.
We are glad you all appreciated the thought we have put into the villa.
Vincenzo, who looks after the villa, the land, the olive and fruit trees and also grows the vegetables, prides himself on the bare earth. It means the land is 'clean', and that all the nutrients are going into our olive trees, and not into weeds. It also means that when it is very hot and dry, there is no chance of a fire starting on the land (and it also discourages things such as snakes which have nowhere to hide).
If we were to grow grass on the 2.5 acres of land, we would have to water it, and we feel that the water could be better used elsewhere. The little grassed rose lawn is a 'nod' to Switzerland, where Vincenzo lived for many years, but this tiny area of lawn needs watering almost every evening during the summer months.

You can go home!

Review Submitted: June 1, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Well we are just back from our stay at this lovely villa and had a fabulous time! We had lived in Carovigno and San Vito in the early eighties for 6 years and thought things would have been a lot differetn but they really hadn't changed at all. We remembered everything as if we had never left and it was truly a "homecoming".
The villa was great and had every convenience one could want. The seclusion made it a very relaxing holiday but we were only a couple minutes from Carovigno so could buzz in there to get supplies at a moment's notice. Vincenzo was awesome and I enjoyed brushing up on my limited Italian with him. He is truly a part of the villa and in speaking with him I could tell he still loves it. Chris and Norman met us upon our arrival and within 5 minutes we discovered we had a friend in common (actually a son of a friend) and they gave us his contact info (small world).
The villa was well maintained and the kitchen had everything one could want to make just about anything. All appliences were modern and worked great. The pool was a blessing as it reached 35 degrees the first three days we were there. It was maintained very well by Vincenzo and was always ready for us. This has to be one of the best villas we've stayed at and considering we normally stay with James Villas I guess that says something.

Owner's Response: The villa has worked its magic again! It is so lovely to know that other people enjoy it as much as us.

Fantastic stay at Villa Mimosa

Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We spend 2 weeks of our summervacation at Villa Mimosa. Beeing 2 adults and 2 teenagers. A fantastic house. Room for everybody, nice and cool inside and a fantastic wheather outside. The pool was frequently used - and has a perfect size for both swimming and playing. The service from both "the pool manager" Vinzenco and the "house keepers" Chris and Norman was absolutely top class. Once we found our way around we found the area very charming. So unlike what we have experienced in the northern part of Italy. Definitely local - and not many tourists. Which is nice! And very interesting to explore local life and shopping, as well af good restaurants. The house is placed almost without neighbours - which we really liked. Car is defintely needed.

A marvellous holiday

Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
The villa was absolutely charming, throughly well-stocked, impeccably clean, and handily situated for all kinds of day trips into the south of Puglia. We had an extremely enjoyable stay. Locals told us the weather was unusually cool for late September, but there was more than enough sun to keep us happy out by the pool, despite the odd cloudy day. We tended to lunch on the terrace but to dine indoors, because the evenings were just borderline too nippy for al fresco, but I'm sure others would have braved it. (This was the very end of Sept, after all.)

The three cats wandering around the place were good fun and we didn't mind occasionally turfing them out of the kitchen. The owner treated us very well with all kinds of pre-stay instructions for finding the place and what to do while there, though one driver suggests an easier route if you're arriving at night from Brindisi: head for Carovigno on the main road and then take the first left, then first right on the road out to San Vito. (The suggested route is admittedly shorter, but involves turn-offs that are hard to see in the dark, we found.)

Our favourite of the local towns was Ostuni, where we ate three times: it's stunning. Lecce was slightly underwhelming, given what we'd heard, but we loved Otranto, further south, and Gallipoli on the west coast. Alberobello is worth a visit if you really want to see the Trulli, but it's a bit of a tourist trap.

I see many of the recommendations pitch this as a perfect place for over-55s, but we are all in our 30s and found more than enough to do. In all, this place is magic and a sure bet for a lovely stay in this part of Italy.

Owner's Response: Hopefully after a winter without guests the cats will have lost the habit (which we think was encouraged by some guests with young children!).
We have found another route to the villa from the San Vito turn off which is easier to find, and we will be adding it to the booklet for next season.
A lovely review - thanks Tim.
