Hiding at the end of a quiet pedestrian cul-de-sac within the walls of the oldest 13th century part of the village, this charming old stone terraced-house appears from the outside to be part of an earlier era. Now tastefully restored and well appointed, the house does not have a garden but the roof terrace offers stunning views across the rooftops to the Luberon and across the valley the mountain St Victoire. This historic village dates back to 1004 and boasts restaurants, bakeries, shops and a cash machine all within easy walking distance. You can soak up the ambiance at the cafe in the shade of the plane trees by the renowned rectangular pond. Located on the gentle southern slopes of the Luberon, Cucuron enjoys clear light and blue skies with sunshine some 300 days per year. Life runs at a slower pace here and you will too, yet there is always something going on. The perfect place to relax, explore, walk and eat well!

With low cost airline flights (e.g. Ryanair, EasyJet) to Marseille and Nimes (FlyBE to Avignon), why not consider a short break to Cucuron (e.g. Thursday to Monday)? Fast Eurostar and TGV links mean the train journey from London to Aix TGV station is just 7 hours. Car rental is widely available at airports and stations. Situated at the edge of the Luberon National Park, this is paradise for walkers and lovers of the outdoors. Nearby Lourmarin, designated one of the 'most beautiful villages in France', has a bustling Friday market. There are more villages to explore north of the Luberon including Bonnieux, Menerbes and Gordes. Yet the buzz and culture of the university town of Aix en Provence is only 30 minutes drive with historic Avignon some 60 minutes away. For those who cannot resist the Mediterranean, the port and beach at Cassis is just over an hour. During the summer, check out the art exhibitions and music festivals which are arranged throughout the region.

  • Published rates may change and are subject to confirmation at time of booking. For late bookings or long-weekend/part-week bookings please contact us to discuss.
  • Rates include bed linen and towels, also water and electricity (fair use policy applies) for parties up to 4. For larger parties (to a maximum of 6) an extra charge of £15 per person applies. Clients are expected to leave the house tidy on departure, otherwise a supplementary charge for exit cleaning will be deducted from the security deposit.
  • 40% deposit payable to confirm the booking with the balance plus £200 security deposit payable 6 weeks before start of rental. The security deposit (net of any deduction) will be refunded within 14 days of the end of the rental.

  • The bedrooms are on the lower level so they remain at an even temperature, being a cool retreat even in the hottest summer periods!

Notes: The home is tastefully equipped and spacious. It will be most appreciated by a couple or two, or a family of 3 or 4 wishing to get away from it all to enjoy the relaxed pace of life in inland Provence, outside the fast lane. Reversible air conditioning units in each room provide cooling in summer and rapid heat in other seasons. There is no telephone in the house. It should be noted that the property has stone stairs between various levels, a terrace at roof level and does not have a garden or outside space. Therefore this home is unlikely to be suitable for young children (except infants). The owners use the property themselves when they can: they offer the home so that others can experience the charm of living in the oldest part of Cucuron, which they have so much enjoyed in recent years.

An excellent base for trips around Provence, but equally good for 'stay at home days' with all mod cons in the spacious kitchen and a large terrace for sunbathing and meals. The house was generally a lot bigger than I had imagined.
We borrowed the house bikes and cycled for miles, some hills but manageable even for us novices. 'La Bonde', about 6km to the east was a nice ride, the beer at the restaurant at the lake side was so good!
Cassis on the coast, about an hour and a half drive (unless you get stuck in Marseilles in which case it could be several days), was a gorgeous day out, stunning coastline and cute shops.
The drive north to Apt was lovely, Lunch at 'Gregoire's' was excellent.
All in all an outstanding holiday both in location and quality of support from owners.
