Two self-catering holiday homes within the same building.Ideal location. Only about a kilometer to the nearest beach. 'Pasticcerie', 'gelaterie', 'rosticcerie', 'bars', supermarkets, banks, the post office, the church and the square are all within reach. Surrounded by many known tourist spots like Mt Etna, Taormina, the gorge of Alcantara, the baroque cities of Acireale, Catania and Siracusa., just to mention a few sites. Certainly, the perfect base for families, couples or groups visiting the eastern side of the Sicily also known as the greener side.This historic Art Nouveau building was constructed way back in 1930s but is now completely renovated. Both apartments are just as spacious and comfortable as the other. Modern facilities. Our own private carpark. We found the apartment to be well equipped, clean, convenient and spacious. It turned out to be larger than we expected from the description on the the website. The journey from the airport was fairly simple, we did however manage to get ourselves lost on arrival in
Mascali. We both felt pretty silly the next morning when we realized just how simple it should have been.
Once you have worked where you are in relationship to the SS114 driving to and from anywhere is fairly straightforward.
Maria proved to be a reliable, friendly, welcoming and generous hostess. Nothing was too much trouble.
Mascali prove to be a good base to see this side of Sicily from. We had visited Sicily several times before and knew exactly what we wanted to see. We can recommend Taormina as a must see - a truly lovely town. Acireale - not quite so cutesy attractive but certainly worth while exploring. Catania is a large sprawl (We drove to Giarre and caught the train from there) - driving to or through Catania is not for the fainthearted! Ortygia is worth the drive as is Noto. The medieval quarter of Enna is worth the effort. For something different we tried the non motorway route, SS192, and the drive was as fascinating as the destination. We'd like to be able to sing the praises of Mt Etna but for the 2nd time we drove up it only to find everything shrouded in cloud and visibility down to a few feet - a reasonable reason to plan another trip to Sicily in the future.
Giarre is a pleasant little town for shopping and we found a lovely chocolate/coffee shop on Corso Italia, on the right hand side of the road as you drive down toward the train station.
On this trip the weather on Sicily was worse than the weather we had left behind on the Isle of Wight (a freak autumn on both islands ensured this) but having a comfortable apartment with a bottle of Baileys (a gift from Maria) to return to after a long day driving and walking was a good way to end the day. Moja ?ona i ja przez trzy tygodnie na Sycylii. Mieli?my szcz??cie znale?? ten uroczy apartament. To by?o bardzo czyste i wygodne. Po prostu doskona?y!Sypialnie i ?azienka by?y du?e. W kuchni by?o nowoczesne i kompletne. Tarasy s? przestronne. Mascali otoczony jest wiele atrakcji turystycznych, takich jak w?wozy Alcantara, Giardini-Naxos, Taormina to teatr grecki. Nigdy nie zapomnimy Mt. Etna. Rynku Riposto sprzedaje pyszne, ?wie?e ryby. Poniewa? moja ?ona uwielbia gotowa? kupili?my ryb prawie codziennie. Chcieliby?my grill w taras, na którym mieli?my nasze posi?ki. WI-FI by?a doskona?a. To by?o wspania?e wakacje w domu rodziny Mondello. Polecam to mieszkanie dla ka?dego.

A WELL-DESERVED BREAK

I was finally able to take a well-deserved break together with my fiancee. We flew all the way from Stuttgart and landed at the new international airport of Catania,Vincenzo Bellini, so modern and efficient. Our car rental was right on the spot. It took us barely an hour to reach this lovely apartment. We were met by Maria and her family, wonderful people who promptly gave us all the information we needed. We found the apartment absolutely clean and well- equipped.Ideal for even two couples or a family of four. The supermarket, the baker's,the bank, the church etc are all within reach. The locals were very helpful giving us directions to find our way around. I took early morning walks to the beach which is only a Km away. It was a pleasant walk right on the main road, a good one. Motorways are excellent. Driving around takes you along scenic landscapes. The apartment has two large terraces where we spent a few afternoons just lazing around. I surely would like to come back soon. Danke Schön to the Mondello family.

HER MAJESTY, MT ETNA

We were composed of a group of three: my brother, my friend and me, all three in our thirties It was our first trip to Sicily and I surely hope not the last. We flew in from Berlin and upon entering the city of Catania we thought we were in a metropolis. We knew that there was so much too see but we had our project to attend to: her majesty, Mt Etna. We explored around and discovered trails, caves and hideaways. We stayed only five days but wished we could have extended our holiday. The apartment was a perfect choice, relaxing and comfortable after a long hike. The kitchen was well-equipped, modern and bright. We will miss dining alfresco. It was just as described on the website, no, even better. Our hosts, Maria and her family gave us the warmest welcome. We were so much at ease with them. We recommend this holiday home to couples and groups alike.

Des vacancances réussies

Mascali est une petite ville peu touristique ce qui permet de se plonger dans la véritable Sicile. Elle est proche de l'autoroute donc facile à atteindre de Catania. Les habitants sont très chaleureux.
L'appartement correspond exactement à la description du site internet. Il est très spacieux avec des plafonds d'une hauteur impressionnante.Il est bien équipé, bien entretenu et d'une propreté extrême.
La terrasse qui fait le tour de la location est vraiment agréable. Elle donne sur les palmiers du jardin en dessous et quelle que soit l'heure on peut y trouver un coin à l'ombre ou au soleil selon son désir: nous y avons pris tous nos repas et y avons passé de nombreuses heures à nous détendre sur les chaises longues ( j'aurais apprécié un coussin pour m'allonger sur les chaises).
La propriété se trouve à quelques minutes à pied du centre et de tous les commerces; par contre les restaurants et les plages les plus proches sont à quelques minutes en voiture.
Les propriétaires Maria Cristina, Agostino et leurs enfants, Mario et Sabrina sont très accueillants et aux petits soins pour leurs vacanciers. Ils sont très attentifs aux besoins de leurs visiteurs : ayant remarqué que nous lisions le soir sur la terrasse, ils nous ont acheté une lampe pour améliorer notre éclairage!
De Mascali on peut facilement visiter dans la journée Messina, Taormina, Catania, Syracuse, et bien entendu Etna.
Je recommanderais cette location sans hésiter.
