A real farm holiday in sunny southern France.
Rainbows End Farm has something for everyone. A ramblers paradise: wide, well marked tracks criss-cross the hills all around and several lead off the farms land. For those who like to move faster it is ideal biking, riding and quad country. The well equipped kitchen is ideal for cooking the fresh vegetables from our gardens and farm products bought from local markets. Children love feeding the animals or paddling in the stream at the bottom of the gardens. Nature lovers can never quite believe the variety of wild life, from butterflies to badgers, wild boars to falcons. And all of this can be viewed from the large south facing bedrooms. The modern bathroom and a soak in the tub is a treat after a day walking the high hills. Pick flowers from the gardens to put on the large farm dining table. A BBQ in the courtyard and a glass of wine as the sun sets over the hills is as near to perfection and as far from city life as you can get.

In the heart of the national park of the Haute Languedoc Rainbows End Farm is a place to stay for people who like truly unspoilt countryside but within reach of Mediterranean beaches, the walled city of Carcassonne, Cathar castles and the Spanish border. There are endless possibilities for day trips. There is a riding school 15 minutes drive away offering trekking in the hills. The wide, well-marked rambling tracks are paradise for mountain biking or hiking. Situated at the beginning of the hill country the scenery is a mixture of Mediterranean garrigue, pine forest, green meadows, waterfalls, ferns. The scenery is dramatic but not intimidating with the gentle colours of chestnuts and walnuts mingled with hazels and oak trees. The Cathar city of Minerve is just over the hill. Classed as one of the most beautiful villages of France it puts on spectacular light shows throughout the summer. The domaines of the well known Minervois region offer wine tastings and you can buy direct.

We are only half an hours drive from supermarkets, banks and 'civilisation' and just 4 kms from the little village shop in Ferrals les Montagnes. If you don't want the hassle of going shopping and would rather be hiking over the hillsides and through the forest or just hanging out with a glass of wine and a book we can arrange to shop for you. There is a generous sized freezer in the kitchen and plenty of fresh farm vegetables which you can buy direct from us.
-
If you want to be really lazy and cared for we can cook for you to your own special menu or one of our suggestions using organically grown vegetables from our gardens and local farm produce

| Notes: | The farmhouse has a courtyard where you can park and also has BBQ facilities close to the house. Opposite the house itself are 2 hectares of garden leading down to the 4th level garden at the bottom of the valley where the river Vallette has its source. You are free to wander or sit at will. You might like to take a book and sit by the stream. You will still be on our own land. There is a ground floor bedroom and bathroom so the house could suit an elderly relative who finds stairs difficult. The hamlet of Autheze is a hill village so it should be said that walking around the village itself does mean going up and down hill. |
Local amenities
There is a local village shop, restaurant, café and post office in Ferrals les Montagnes which is just 4 kms away. The market town of St. Pons is half an hours drive and as well as the two supermarkets and bank with a cash distributor there is a wonderful farmers market on Wednesday mornings. Going down towards the coast La Livinière has shops and excellent wine but Olonzac is the nearest large town with all facilities. It is half an hours drive and worth making the trip on a Tuesday which is market day. It also has a leisure lake with picnicking facilities, swimming and sailing. Minerve (16kms) has many restaurants, cafés and art galleries. A number of the local farmers sell honey, cheeses and vegetables direct.
Ramblers Paradise
The National Park of the Haute Languedoc is renowed for its hiking paths. You can set out from the farm in all directions and although we do not offer accompanied walking tours we have detailed local maps and can advise you on walks. The walk that takes you from the farm to the high hills above is known throughout the world for its fossils. Most of our recommended walks take about 4 to 5 hours and are about 14 kms long bringing you home in a loop but we can collect you at the end of a walk.
