The exclusive comunidad of El Enclave is positioned on rocks just above the sea. It has its own private jetty where you can swim, fish and explore the nearby marine park. El Nido (the Nest) has a private terrace with 180 degree views of La Herradura bay giving it a real 'wow' factor. It is both private and romantic but close enough to the beach to make visits to the bars and restaurants an easy 5 minute walk. The house is furnished to a high standard and is the home of the owner for half the year. This ensures that it has all you need for a comfortable and hassle free stay. The house is watched over by Inma, the concierge, who is on site to help with any problems. The nearby village of La Herradura manages to keep its Spanish character and still maintains a daily market. El Nido is special as the top mark reviews testify. After only three sets of visitors it already had a repeat booking for the same year.

La Herradura has been protected from aggressive development as the coastal motorway has only recently been extended there. Therefore it is still very spanish and much less developed than the western end of the coast. The beautiful bay and wide stretch of beach can easily absorb visitors and is not overrun with crowds, even at the height of the season. It has many good restaurants along the beach and a further selection is available in the neighbouring towns of Nerja and Almunecar. There are many interesting trips that can be made inland to the typical Alpujarran villages nearby and both Malaga and Granada have much to offer visiting tourists. Both are only an hour's ride away. It is a good base for the famous Andalucian centres such as Sevilla, Cordoba and Ronda. Bus connections are good and very reasonably priced. Sea and other sports are readily available and there are three good golf courses within half an hour of the house by car. It is a well known underwater sea centre.

Notes: The house and complex have a spanish feel but the original german owners made sure that the rooms were carefully designed and spacious with the terrace as an extra living space. As well as the views it has a large sheltered eating and sitting area and plenty of space for sunbathing. It is completely private and a wonderful place to chill out. In the Summer guests spend most of their time there. For those wanting to swim there is a choice of the private jetty where you can lie on the rocks and swim directly in the sea or you can use the communal pool which is pleasantly laid out and lit for early evening swimming. At night it is a real joy and the pool becomes a feature in its own right. All the houses are well looked after in keeping with the reputation of the complex for being one of the best locations in the area. Security is good with off street parking and a permanent concierge on site and regular visits by the gardener to keep and eye on the properties.

Out and About: La Herradura is only an hour away from Granada, a must for most people and there are several shorter trips that can be done to the Alpujarras and other inland places for a look at the more typical Spain. All the well known tourist centres of Andalucia such as Ronda, Sevilla, Cordoba and Marbella are within a 3 hour drive making it a good centre for sightseeing. Granada Province and La Herradura itself are well know for its tapas and generally speaking offer good value for money compared to its neighbours to the west. There is plenty of reading material and advice available to visitors in the house. For those less active the house and the comunidad are ideal just to chill out and relax either by the pool, on the jetty or on the terrace. The owner has been in the area for over 20 years and knows it well so is only too happy to help with advice.

Sporting Activities: La Herradura has a comprehensive water sports centre on the beach which gives tuition and hires out boats and surf boards. Underwater diving can be done from centres in Nerja and Marina del Este both within easy reach. Hand gliders can be seen regularly taking advantage of the cliffs above La Herradura bay. Tennis courts can be hired opposite El Enclave and there is a well run riding school close by which provides beautiful horses and tuition for all levels of riding expertise. What better way to explore the courtryside and the beach!. Golf is more relaxing, cheaper and accessible than on the western side of Malaga. Details of courses are given below. For walkers the area has a superb variety of interesting walks from strolling on the beach to more serious forays into the Sierras where the views match any of its rivals from Peru to the Rockies. The Costa Tropical is also unusual in that you can enjoy sunbathing on the coast or sking in the mountians on the same day

Location, location is everything they say,and if you were to choose a
house to buy, then EL Nido is in the perfect position in the beautiful
bay of La Herradura. But the holiday experience at EL Nido is about
more than its superb position. Jill the charming owner provides a first
class service from the initial booking, supplying clear directions and
top class information on the area, to taking the trouble to make contact
after your holiday to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
Plenty of other reviewers have spoken about how clean and well
equiped the villa is, and I endorse those opinions.
I am a frequent visiter to La Herradura having stayed at six different
holiday homes all around the bay, and EL Nido is the first one I would
return to.
In my opinion La Herradura is the best resort along the coast from
Gibralta to Almeria. It still has a typical spanish flavour and is not over
developed. It has a daily food market for fresh fruit, fish, meat and
of course the the amazing jamon.
There is a good selection of restaurants, and many of the bars uphold that splendid Granada tradition of serving a generous portion of tapas with every (even soft) drink. A free lunch is not impossible!
Do not be surprised that if after your first visit you catch the La Herradura bug,and find you must return, as many people do.

TRANQUILITY

Having spent 18 days at El Nido from September 7th 2009, we can recommend the house for the peace and quiet and the glorious views. The house was comfortable and very well equipped. We spent hours on the wonderful terrace just chilling out taking advantage of the lovely shaded dining area. To be able to walk to the beach, restaurants and shops was an added bonus because we didn't need to use the car as much as we thought. However we did enjoy the scenic drive to Granada and other nearby places. We enjoyed having the pool almost to ourselves during our stay. The weather was ideal as the September temperatures tend to be more comfortable. We found Inma very helpful when there were questions to be asked even though our Spanish is very limited. We would certainly return to El Nido in the future.

Superb place to stay!

This is a really lovely individual property with just about everything you could wish for. The furnishing and maintenance of the property are excellent and it is just like having your own personal second home for the duration of your stay.
Great directions and guidance on the property provided by the very helpful owner.
La Herradura and the beach are very accessible from the property and if you are happy with a lazy week making the most of the local facilities a hire car is superfluous - we only drove ours to and from the airport.

Barbara & John-Merseyside Stayed 16/05/09 Beautiful house,beautiful setting.Really enjoyed our stay La Herradura was peaceful and quiet.The house was everything we had hoped for and read about.The terrace was perfect as was the weather so did not have to go to far to enjoy ourselves.Will definitely go back next year.Highly recommended.

Great house in a private location

Having been in Granada for a friend's wedding we decided to add a few days on to our trip and head down the coast. After a bit of research and speaking to the owner we decided to book El Nido and we weren't disappointed.

La Herradura is not as developed as Nerja or Alumnecar and the bay makes it a beautiful setting. The beach is shingle so we couldn't be tempted, but the private terrace is perfect for lounging on the sunbed reading.

The house itself is very well equipped and comfortable.

We found lots of good restaurants within walking distance and in particular the menu del dia at La Parilla was excellent value along with Rosa Nautica, which is more of a German restaurant, but had the best fish. The local market had everything we needed when we did decide to cook and produce was very fresh.

We normally holiday in Majorca and stay in country houses so this was a change for us, but El Nido was still private and quiet which is what we want in a holiday. Highly recommended.
