A first visit but definitely not the last

We had never been to Turkey before but decided it was about time we did – partly because we wanted to find somewhere out of the Euro zone so that we would get better value for our holiday money! Everyone we spoke to had nothing but praise for Turkey and now we understand why.
Not knowing any of the resorts, we had to try to establish where to stay to suit the type of holiday we wanted. It had been a busy time for us all and so we were looking for a base off the beaten tourist track where we could get in a week of well-earned relaxation. We found this apartment in Gulluk and, as it turned out, we made an excellent choice. I would go so far as to say it was perfect for us.
Both bedrooms had their own bathroom, with a lovely efficient and roomy walk-in shower. The master bedroom was very comfortable, with plenty of cupboard space, and our boys, aged 18 and 15, shared the second bedroom. The main living area and kitchen had everything you could wish for, even though we didn’t intend watching much satellite TV or, for that matter, doing any cooking! All rooms are air conditioned but one feature we particularly appreciated was that all windows – including those leading to the balcony, were fitted with mosquito screens so that we could have fresh air through the apartment during the day and still keep the bugs at bay.
The apartment is part of a complex but by no means is the area over-developed. It was serenely quiet through our stay and the shared pool area was a terrific place to relax. It never got so busy that the chill-out factor was compromised and the pool itself was absolutely gorgeous – large, warm and kept impeccably clean. There were days in and around that pool that I wanted to spend the rest of my life there!
Though the apartment and the complex was a perfect base, we didn’t want to spend the whole week there because we did want a taste of what Turkey was like. Gulluk itself is charming because it is unspoilt and to wander around the harbour area and into the town, especially on market day, leaves the impression that you are truly a visitor to a foreign land rather than just another tourist. There are good restaurants around the harbour and a few bars, which makes the place a little livelier at night but Ayia Napa it certainly isn’t!
Hiring a car is to be seriously recommended. It is possible to walk to the centre, though why anyone would want to, I cannot imagine, especially as taxis are plentiful. We would recommend taking a couple of days
