Papaya House is a comfortable bungalow located in Tunapuna, a bustling suburban town eight miles east of the capital, Port of Spain, with much of its activity still centered around the market and town centre. There are four spacious, air-conditioned bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, an open plan living/ dining and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped, dining table seats eight, and the lounge is bright and airy. There are laundry facilities and parking on the property. Our house manager lives in an apartment adjoining the house, but with a separate entrance. The house is within a 10 MINUTE WALK of the market, pharmacy, a small supermarket, banks, two cinemas, a range of other shops including restaurants and take-aways, and the University of the West Indies campus. Within a 10 MINUTE DRIVE you will find a 18 hole golf course and country club, and a shopping mall with over 100 shops also including Japanese, pizza and seafood restaurants, as well as two food courts, a six screen cinema, banks, a games arcade, and a large supermarket. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The BEACHES of the north coast can be reached in 45 minutes, with numerous other sights such as LOPINOT, MARACAS FALLS, and CARONI SWAMP all within a 30 min drive. Nearest is MT ST BENEDICT at about a 10 min drive. The capital, PORT OF SPAIN, with its numerous restaurants, bars and clubs (particularly in the Woodbrook and St James areas) is eight miles away.

  • RENTAL RATES------We price the house based on the number of people in your group, as well as the number of bedrooms to be occupied. This is different to most other holiday homes/villas that have a flat rate regardless of the number of people booking, but OUR POLICY allows us to offer good value to small as well as large groups. When you make a booking you will NOT be sharing the house with anyone else, even if you are just a party of one or two people.

  • Carnival rates:

    Our peak season Carnival 2010 rates remain the same price as in 2009. For the period 6 to 20 February 2010 inclusive, the cost of renting the house is a flat rate of US$2200 per week. There are no additional taxes or service charges, and the property sleeps a maximum of eight people. Minimum stay over Carnival of one week. Our regular rates and conditions apply outside the Carnival period specified above.

    Booking:

    50% deposit is required to confirm the booking, with the balance due on 6 weeks prior to arrival. If booking within six weeks of your arrival date, full payment must be made. We do take bookings for less than a week - cost is pro rata - minimum stay is 3 nights.
    We accept payment by debit or credit card, UK cheque, bank transfer or Western union.
  • CANCELLATIONS: More than 6 weeks before your arrival date, deposit refunded ---- Between 2 to 6 weeks before your arrival date, 50% of full payment refunded ---- Between 1 to 2 weeks before your arrival date, 25% of full payment refunded ---- Less than 1 week before your arrival date, No refund

Notes: The Swimming Pool in the backyard is 20ft long by 15ft wide (approx 6m by 4.6m). Half of the pool is 4.5ft (approx 1.4m) deep, and other half 5.5ft (approx 1.7m) deep. There are steps on the shallower end to walk into the pool.

Sightseeing & Activities: From swimming in limestone caves, picnicking at a river, seeing Leatherbacks laying their eggs and hatchings emerge, investigating the natural asphalt lake, visiting the world famous Asa Wright Nature Centre, hiking to many waterfalls, seeing the Red Howler Monkeys in the day, and the Scarlet Ibis at sunset, to the renowned carnival and it's associated activities. There are also local museums, art exhibitions and theatre worth checking out. BIODIVERSITY IN TRINIDAD 'The continental origin and proximity of Trinidad to South America, along with its varied habitats, has resulted in an extremely diverse biota. Species lists for this island are impressive, including 97 native mammals, 400 birds, 55 reptiles, 25 amphibians, and 617 butterflies, as well as over 2,200 species of flowering plants! No other area in the West Indies, and few areas of comparable size in tropical America, can match this spectacular species diversity.' taken from the Asa Wright Nature Centre website.

House Manager: We have a house manager who lives in an apartment adjoining Papaya House, but with a separate entrance. The house manager will meet you at the airport, be able to answer any queries, and is conveniently nearby should you require any assistance during your stay. He can advise you on arranging your own excursions, or assist you in booking guided tours. You might also like to consider a day trip or a couple of days in Trinidad's sister isle, Tobago, and we can also help you to plan this. The house manager and car can also be hired as your personal driver and tour guide during your stay (for TT$350 per day - the same, if not cheaper, than a rental car alone!) so that you can be completely stress free, really enjoy the sights, not have to worry about finding your way, or about driving back home after a night out. He is an enthusiastic runner and hiker and the ideal guide. Please email us any with any queries, or alternatively, just ask our house manager at any point during your stay

I stayed there for twenty-first bithday along with a group of friends that visted Trinidad for the first time, till this day they speak very highly of Micheal and Nerissa and the service that we recieved. Nerissa was very informative and timely with regards to any questions and Micheal was excellent all the same. I definately look forward to visiting again, they truly capture the real hospitality of Trinidad and Tobago. Great work : ) and thanks for making my stay wonderful and memorable.

Great place to stay in Trinidad

We just got back on Saturday from Trinidad after staying 9 days and I must say the house was very nice. The pool was wonderful and Mike was the BEST!!!!!!!!! I would definitely recommend staying at the house if you are looking to stay somewhere not expense and get the real feel of Trinidad. Also, Mike is so unbelieveably helpful it made the stay very enjoyable. If I had a critizism it is that the neigbhorhood is still being built up, once you get use to that you are fine. I can't say it enough good things about Mike his is the best...

I spent 9 days here and it was well worth it. I have no regrets. Michael who is the house manager was nothing short of excellent and the compound is very clean and comfortable. I will stay here again.
