The Dordogne, or the Périgord as it is known by the French, is one of the most beautiful regions in France. The Périgord Noir, which derives its name from the black truffles found here and its walnuts, is to be found in the triangle of Sarlat, Domme and Les Eyzies, cut through by the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. The Périgord Noir is a stunning mixture of prehistoric caves hidden in tree-covered valleys and medieval castles dating from the 100 years war. You cannot fail to be impressed by the number and variety of castles that there are to visit, as well as the multitude of prehistoric cave dwellings and underground sites. The Périgord Noir is also famous for its cuisine. You can expect some form of duck on every menu, either the famous duck or goose liver (foie gras) or “confit de canard” or the lighter “magret de canard”. You should try the truffles, whose farming grounds are kept a very close secret by the truffle hunters, and also the cèpes, a very tasty form of mushroom.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Beynac et Cazenac, France

Further Details Indoors:

La Petite Maison is one of the most picturesque homes in Beynac. Situated on a footpath leading to the Chateau, your medieval adventure awaits. Step inside into a quiet retreat and enjoy the charm of its thick stone walls and heavy chestnut timbers. Many of its furnishings date back to the 1700’s including the dining table and buffet, both made of walnut in the local Perigordian style.

No one will have to draw straws for the kid’s bedroom because this cottage has two full sized master suites each with its own private ensuite bathroom. A common living area with the sitting room and dining area separates the bedrooms above and below. The living room boasts a massive stone fireplace, antique copper, and leather furniture, which accentuates the comfort and enjoyment of staying in your own place.

La Petite Maison is perfect for couples and small families. With two master bedrooms, it sleeps 4 very comfortably but may also sleep 1 additional guest. There is a single bed suitable for a youth in the bedroom upstairs.

The village of Beynac consists of a cluster of golden-stone houses beneath a dramatic 500 foot cliff. Perched at the top stands the 12th century Chateau Beynac, rising from the sheer cliff face along the most historic and scenic section of the Dordogne River. With its formidable Chateau, rows of charming houses, and the gentle river below, the setting is simply captivating. La Petite Masion makes for an ideal home base for visiting all the picturesque villages in the Perigord Noir, including Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Castelnaud, Monpazier, and Sarlat, the most historically preserved medieval city in all of France.??

Beynac castle is renowned for being one of the best preserved medieval castles in France. It was painstakingly restored last century using only the tools of the medieval craftsman. From the castle terrace, the chateaux of Marqueyssac, Fayrac, and Castelnaud are all within view across the verdant tapestry of this beautiful valley.

Nowhere have we found a more tranquil, beautiful, and romantic setting than here in the Dordogne. Whether you are exploring fairy tale castles, strolling a local market, wandering through cobblestone streets, studying prehistoric cave art, or simply taking in the unspoiled countryside, you will come to understand why this is one of the most endearing regions in all of Europe. Designated by the French government as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Beynac never fails to impress.

Further Details Outdoors: Medieval stone house, fully renovated. La Petite Maison is pictured in a Beynac postcard as one of the beautiful homes on the path to the Chateau. Petite Maison is so photogenic, you'll find countless visitors stopping to take a photo of it on their way to or from the castle

A fantastic stay in la Petite Maison

Review Submitted: May 25, 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
We had a wonderful time at la Petite Maison in Beynac-et-Cazenac. The medieval village of Beynac is charming and very well preserved. From there, we had the opportunity to visit easily Lascaux 2, the Château de Castelnaud, Sarlat and its market, Domme and Rocamadour. We also enjoyed cooking with our son and his girlfriend in the very well equipped kitchen. Everything was perfect and we plan to return as soon as possible.

Absolutely delightful

Review Submitted: January 15, 2012 Date of Stay: December 2011
We absolutely loved our stay at La Petite Maison over Christmas 2011. The house itself is amazing; we loved the wooden beams, and the limestone wall in the downstairs bathroom, as well as the attic bedroom, and of course, the fireplace, which kept us very toasty as it was quite chilly while we were there. Martine was so lovely and friendly and took excellent care of us while we were there, she really made us feel at home.
The restaurant closeby which Vincent recommended, La Petite Tonnelle, was also excellent - our enjoyment of their food was such that we ate their every day they were open during our stay, becoming part of the furniture I think, and eating our way through their menu. We did not come across better food throughout our whole trip in France.
We will certainly recommend the house to others, and hope to return again in the future.

A Storybook House

Review Submitted: October 6, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
Our experience at La Petite Maison was a delight. The house itself is charming and comfortable. The local people with whom we associated were friendly and helpful. The Perigord region is beautiful and filled with lovely villages and interesting sites to explore. La Petite Maison made a splendid base from which to branch out and then was a welcoming retreat when we returned "home." We would recommend this holiday rental to anyone who can climb the stairs to the bedrooms.

Our Medieval experience

Review Submitted: August 15, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
Our week in Beynac was made even more enjoyable by staying in La Petite Maison....the owners have gone to great lengths to make it charming and comfortable and we felt at home the minute we arrived. We loved being the occupants of the house many tourists photographed.
We walked everywhere and enjoyed the local shops and restaurants. What is not to love about a medieval town with chateaux on every hilltop? The senic beauty, along with boating on the Dordogne, hot air baloon rides and so much to explore within a reasonable distance, make Beynac a perfect vacation spot.

The perfect vacation home in a beautiful village

Review Submitted: August 2, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
My wife and I have always wanted to experience the life in a small village in France. Every year as we follow the Tour de France, we see one beautiful village after another. Which one to visit?? We heard so much about the Perigord region famous for its medieval castles and of course for the beautiful Dordogne river that graces it. After much research we decided on the village of Beynac. Why Beynac? Actually, we were not familiar with this quaint charming village until our search for a gite in the Perigord region lead us to what would be our home for a week – La Petite Maison. The pictures and description of the property drew us in and captured us. This was the place! Our party of five found a perfect little house that had all the comfort and amenities of home. This tri-level 500 year old structure offered privacy with a private bedroom/bathroom downstairs, living room/kitchen at street level and a very large bedroom/bathroom upstairs where our daughter and our two grand-daughters staid. Beynac has many steep cobblestoned streets and alleys but La Petite Maison is conveniently located close to the main street of Baynac and its restaurants, bakery, shops, post office and ATM. For those who want to avoid steep climbs it is ideally situated. We also want to acknowledge that the proprietor was very accommodating and helpful in handling the reservations and facilitating the financial aspect of the transaction. The orientation guide he provided ahead of time was excellent. We want to also single out the wonderful reception we received from our hostess while in Beynac. She was extremely helpful and “sympathique”!
