Photos and Description of this County Mayo holiday house Heritage Holiday Rental Self-Catering 5 Bed 4 bath 8 Adults & 2 Kids.

Situated in wild beautiful countryside on Ireland’s west coast, The Old Red Schoolhouse was built in 1925. The two front doors reveal how the building was originally divided between boys & girls, with walls separating the front yard, the entrance hall, & even the playground! Times have changed however, & the two halves of the Schoolhouse are now fused into a spacious & comfortable holiday home, with 4 double bedrooms, 1 twin bunk room, 4 bathrooms, kitchen, utility, dining, sunroom, living room & stunning entrance hall, ready to welcome you for a relaxing experience in a very special place. Close to Clew Bay on the Atlantic Ocean, there are stunning beaches, sailing, sea fishing & golfing nearby. The lively heritage town of Westport is 5k away & the local country pub a brisk walk away. With underfloor heating throughout an open fire in the double height living room, woodburning stoves in the kitchen, hall & sunroom, it's spacious but very cosy. There's a south facing BBQ deck & garden.

Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009

Schoolhouse Experience

US vactioner St. Louis, Missouri USA
Review Submitted: July 7, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The Schoolhouse is an excellent property for families wishing to stay together and experience Irish country life.
It's accessible to a variety of west attractions, specifically Down Patrick Head, Ceidge Fields, Galway, Castles, Beach and Achill Island. The renovation of the schoolhouse was absolutely beautiful. It was a shame that the house itself was not clean. The owner was informed and apologized. I would gladly recommend the property, but warn the renters that they may be cleaning the house themselves to feel comfortable.
Owner's Response: This is the first time we have received a complaint about cleanliness and this one was unreasonably fastidious. None-the-less, we reacted immediately, courteously and professionally and followed up with our guests to ensure total satisfaction. While we wish them well, we deem their last comment as wholly unwarranted and are thankful that they are not representative of the many happy holiday rental guests we have had in the past.

School Was Never So Much Fun!

KathyLL Silver Spring, Maryland
Review Submitted: November 17, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Going to school was never this much fun! My family loved our week at the historic Old Red Schoolhouse. The idyllic country setting was perfect for relaxing, lulled by the occasional lowing of the cattle. We enjoyed long walks along the lane, particularly to Clew Bay. At the same time, we were within driving distance of any number of interesting sights—Kylemore Abbey, Achille Island, and Croagh Patrick. When we wanted to experience the hustle and bustle of an Irish city, we headed for Galway.

We vacationed with another family and the house was ideally arranged to accommodate four adults and five "children" ranging from 14 to 22 years old. The two sitting rooms provided ample space for the younger generation to enjoy board games while the parents read or talked. We cooked often and found the kitchen fully equipped and the large table was perfect for dinner for nine.

I know my family will always treasure our Ireland vacation and we all agree that we definitely want to return to the Old Red Schoolhouse someday.

Just perfect

king55 Silver Spring, MD, USA
Review Submitted: November 13, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Our two families absolutely loved our stay in the Old Red Schoolhouse. The accommodations were very clean, well maintained, and had every amenity that we could have wanted.

We spent much of our time enjoying the house, the view, long walks around the area. When we ventured out by car, we saw beautiful beaches, lovely towns, historic churches and castles. One of our more challenging adventures was climbing Crough Patrick Mountain which we could see out the back of the house. It was a tough climb, but one of the highlights of our trip.

We couldn't have asked for a better vacation. The owners were delightful in our correspondences and were available to answer all of our questions.

We highly recommend staying at this historic property that has been modernized to satisfy the most discerning visitor.
