San Gimignano holiday apartment: San Gimignano

We booked this property at a late stage Things did not start well when we had an accident driving to the property but David came to our rescue and not only ferried us to the property but also took us the local supermarket and into Volterra the next day. We then hired a taxi with the local taxi firm to pick up a replacement car. The driver drove like a madman, constantly speeding up and slowing down when his sat nav warned him of speed cameras. Our four year old ended up being car sick as a result and although we cleared the mess up he charged an extra €30 on the already exhorbitant fare. A total of €110 for a 35 km journey!!!!!
The accommodation was very spacious and the loggia was very welcome even though the weather in October was mixed. The main room had a wood burning fire in it which was very efficient. As we did not go out at night it gave a comforting warmth that complimented the evening meal prepared from local food and accompanied by a glass of Chianti.
The bathroom areas were very stylish and as well as towels we were provided with towelling dressing gowns. There was a large walk-in wardrobe with a safe.
We did eat out in the daytime when visiting the local towns including Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra. Volterra had an indoor market on the Sunday where we bought local pecorino and honey.
The grounds of the property are well laid out and there is a washing machine and drying area-very useful after using local taxi.
The only disappointment was the pool. This is heated via solar powered heat exchange system. The pool temp was 18 to 20 C. Too cold for our son but in summer would presumably be warmer. There also some minor maintenance issues that we were informed would be attended to over the winter break.
David was an excellent host throughout our stay. Extremely helpful without being intrusive he kept us well stocked with fire wood, DVDs and games for the outside area. A true gentleman.
The property is in a secluded setting well hidden from all local facilities but accessible by car. We would have no hesitation in recommending it for a relaxing break in Tuscany.
