On the edge of the Morvan Regional Park, an extensive area of beautiful woodland, lakes and hills, with cycle tracks, horse-riding, walking, boating, bird-watching. Open-air swimming at the European Blue Flag lake at Arnay-le-Duc, which also offers tennis, fishing and bike rental.
Lovely medieval towns nearby include Vezelay, Avallon, Beaune, Dijon, Autun, Semur-en-Auxois. Many local towns have markets with excellent local produce. Don't miss the wonderful Hotel de Dieu at Beaune, and the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Dijon.
Eating out is a pleasure, with nearby Saulieu boasting the famous Michelin 3-star Bernard Loiseau restaurant, a friendly little pizza/crepe place near the church, and the atmospheric Cafe Parisien. There's more choice at Autun, Beaune, Dijon.
Bourgogne is most famous of course for its wine, and there are many choices of Caves along the Wine route between Dijon and Beaune where you can drop in for a 'degustation' of some truly wonderful local vintages.
