MONEGLIA AND LUCA CAMBIASO: Moneglia's most illustrious san Luca Cambiaso was one of the most important painters of the Genoese school. Born in Moneglia in 1527, in a house near the church of Santa Croce, in the 58 years of his life he filled the buildings and churches of Genoa and the Riviera with works of great artistic value. Among these are panelled altarpieces, paintings and series of frescos painted with a very personal stile in line with the climate of the counter-reformation. From Genoa he emigrated to Spain where, before his death in 1585, he left numerous important works in the Escorial. His native town retains a picture of the Last Supper by the school of the artist, in the sacristy of the church of Santa Croce, while the Adoration of the Three Kings is kept in the church of San Giorgio and can be dated to 1570/1575. It was originally to be found in the church of San Francesco in Chiavari.

TRUE MEDITERRANEAN MAQUIS: A deep green colours the hills throughout the year and a heady perfume fills the air. This is the fascination of the Mediterranean maquis, which surrounds Moneglia. The light of the sun filters through the plumes of the maritime pines and the oaks, warming the fairytale like forest floor, where it seems as if you might see an elf walking along the paths, between the red sarsaparilla berries and the light blue flowers of wild lavender.
