The Red Buoy is an idyllic sunny beach apartment attached to a Victorian slate house right on Porthcothan beach. This beautiful beach has sand dunes, caves, rock pools, surfing and is fantastic for swimming and fishing. The coastal path runs right past the end of the garden with wonderful cliff walks, stunning views and great birdwatching. This apartment has whitewashed wooden walls throughout. The kitchen and bathroom have a conservatory roof and are very light and sunny. The kitchen shelves and work surfaces are hand crafted from hardwoods washed up on Cornish beaches. The double bedroom is like a ships cabin, with a lot of cupboard space and an ensuite bathroom (shower, basin and WC). The living room has a futon sofa bed, armchairs, table and four chairs, oil heater, maps, books and games. It has TV/Sky, DVD/CD and wireless broadband. The entrance is through its own private garden with a hammock, washing line, table and chairs, access to a laundry room, telephone and the local shop.

Cornwall's scenery is amazing with rugged cliffs, rolling hills, fantastic beaches that stretch for miles. There is a wealth of wildlife and birds. Inland waters and rivers tumbling to the oceans. Porthcothan Bay is one of seven beaches around Trevose Head, all of them are sandy and within a few miles of each other. This apartment is five miles from Padstow with it's restaurants (including Rick Stein's) and shops. Watergate Bay is also close by with excellent surfing, kite surfing and Jamie Oliver's 15 restaurant. Cornwall's mining industry and landscape gained World Heritage status in 2006. World Heritage Status places these historic mining landscapes on a par with such international treasures as Stonehenge, the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China. You could also visit the Eden Project or St Ives with its interesting art gallery. Visiting Cornwall is like stepping back in time, and that's a big part of the attraction.

Additional information about rental rates

  • We require a £100 deposit (in the form of a sterling cheque) to reserve your holiday dates. The balance of the rental period to be paid eight weeks before your holiday in sterling cheque or bank transfer in GB Pounds. When transferring money from overseas first liaise with your bank about their various charges to make the transfer. With the balance you should also send a Security Deposit of £150 in the form of a Sterling cheque. This deposit will not be banked unless there is major loss or damage and will normally be returned to you 7-10 days after your holiday. A winter heating payment of £25.90 per week is payable between the beginning of November until the end of March. Final cleaning included in rental charges. Beach towels not included.
  • Minimum rental period of one week. Saturday to Saturday bookings are preferred but I do understand that it is not always possible.
  • Please take out an inexpensive holiday insurance just in case you have to cancel your holiday.

  • This bathroom is fantastically bright with its conservatory roof and all white walls. The enclosed shower cubical is completely tiled. It has a white toilet and basin with chrome fittings and a chrome heated towel rail. There are some mirror wall tiles, a mirrored bathroom cabinet and an extractor fan.

  • The 4'6' (cabin) bed sleeps two and has 4 pillows, a duvet and lovely blankets. There is a wall of cupboards including one for hanging clothes, one for folded clothes and an airing cupboard.

We had a wonderful stay. The Red Buoy is clean, cosy and well equipped. The cliff walks are awe-inspiring and are only a stones throw from The Red Buoy. The beach is perfect for swimming and close by are some fun surf spots. Excellently located to nearby tourist attractions; Bodmin Moor, Padstein and The Camel Trail. Jane, the owner was extremely helpful and very welcoming. I would recommend a stay in the Red Buoy to anyone.

Lovely stay, in a sunny, comfortable, well-equipped apartment, unbelievably close to beautiful Porthcothan beach and cliff walks. Kitchen has everything you need, bathroom ensuite to bedroom. TV with Sky, DVD/CD player, lots of books and board games provided. Apartment garden is secluded, there’s a small pond, garden full of plants and flowers, and it has an outside, raised seating area with country views and is a real sun trap. Jane, the owner, is very welcoming and helpful. Apartment is attached to Jane’s home but it doesn’t feel like it, you are not overlooked, it is very quiet, and it has its own access separate from the main house and garden. Access to the beach and cliff walks is via Jane’s garden or from the village. A home-from-home to truly relax and unwind in after a day spent on the beach or walking.

The beach is great for swimming, surfing and exploring – sand dunes, caves, and rock pools. Nice pub, for views, at the top of the hill overlooking Porthcothan beach and bay. Local village shop, ideal for essentials (bread, milk, etc), and very nice ice cream. Really handy local bus service between Padstow and Newquay, stops off at villages enroute where you can pick up country walks.

The Red buoy

My girlfriend and i spent one week in the Red buoy. It was a relaxing and magical time. The Red buoy itself is the cutest place to spend your holiday in cornwall. It has a very homey and rustic feel with all the trappings of modern life, minus the stress! There are some amazing cliff walks either side of the beach. The owner is wonderfully welcoming and relaxed. we can recommend the Red buoy whole heartedly. The rest is for you to discover. Thank you again Jane. Justyna and Johnson. x
