Historical informations.:
Messina is home to a very old Norman style cathedral which boasts a unique bell tower, nearly 60 metres tall, which houses a large astronomical clock bulit in Strasbourg in 1933.
Every day at 12 noon, Schubert's Ave Maria accompanies a display of characters on the bell tower telling the history of Messina.
In Messina museum you can see paintings which date from the 13th century to the 18th century.
Amongst the most famous painters are Antonello da Messina and Caravaggio.
Messina' port is also linked to the charming cluster of the Eolie Islands.
Messina has a beautiful natural port which is towered by the statue of the 'Madonna della Lettera'.

- Stromboli with its active volcano.
Taormina which is only about 40 Km. away, is considered to be the pearl of the Mediterranean with its breathtaking Greek Amphitheatre and stunning views over Mount Etna,the last active volcano in Europa, often showing spectacular eruptions.
In Tindari which is a resort about 50 Km.away, it is possible to visit stunning sanctuary of the Black Madonna and the Greek theatre.
