The property, located on a small private estate, situated in the centre of Meschers, within walking distance of a supermarket, local shops and beaches. There is a daily market in the summer with stalls of fresh fruit and vegetables, wonderful sea food, and much more. The port, with many restaurants and cafes, is also only a short walk away. The towns of St Geoges De Didionne and Royan with their famous beaches are both within 3 miles. Local buses are available. The zoo at La Palmyre, golf and 'la cote savage' (wild coast) are within half an hour's drive. Visit the distilleries at Cognac, the old towns of La Rochelle and Romanesque Saintes, the Islands of Oleron & ILe de Re and too much more to mention.

We stayed here in July and had a lovely time. The bungalow is very well equipped and it is in the ideal location. As others have said the photos dont do it justice. The local beach is really pleasant,and not overcrowded even in the school holidays. It is an easy walk down the road there or the other way for a very good supermarket plus local shops and a thriving market. Also near enough to walk is the port with some good restaurants. Plus do try the pizza bakery which bakes pizzas to order with your choice of 5 toppings - details are in the information given by owners. Seriously delicious! We would definitely return to this area and this property which is quiet and peaceful yet so near to everything you need.

Just returned from a lovely holiday in this very special holiday bungalow. Just as the owner describes, it is very close to the local beach, supermarket and local high street where this is a range of shops and restaurants. All within easy walking distance. The bungalow is well equipped, can't think of a single thing which we thought was missing! Truly, a home from home! The local agent was very helpful, greeting us on arrival and sharing with us lots of valuable local information, getting our holiday off to an excellent start.

A Fantastic Property

We were absolutely delighted with this lovely new build (once we'd found it tucked away at the end of the long drive!) and had a great week walking down to the beach or going the other way to the town. My wife is recovering from a stroke so it took us maybe 10 minutes to get to the beach but we never drove anywhere once we'd arrived, not even to the shops - just walked everywhere.We loved the open plan aspect of the living area and found everywhere perfectly clean my only slight gripe being that there was loads of empty kitchen cupboards and, what I consider basic kitchen utensils, colander, etc, not available. Also not much in the way of games, floaties for the beach, etc, but this was only a minor issue and I just put it down to it being a new property - it certainly wouldn't stop us coming again. We spent most of the week just relaxing. My wife had been in hospital for a week before and flew out to meet us, so we didn't do any exploring of the surrounding area - the kids were just happy kicking a ball around in the big garden or swimming in the sea. Frustrated with the kid's insisting on watching CBBC early morning, a couple of times I took off on the mountain bike for an hour or so - very therapeutic! Took a walk on the beach at 08.00 when no-one was around. On our last night we had a great night at the bar on the beach indulging in the Mexican buffet and enjoying the entertainment - particularly the Septuagenarian cockney blues guitarist (I'm still contemplating a career move. What a place to make aliving!) Communication was great beforehand and also with their 'agent' when we arrived who filled us in with all the necessary info and we were grateful to Liz and Richard for returning our dressing gowns that we'd rather stupidly left hanging on the bedroom door as we left!! We assumed they would take postage out of the deposit but they returned them f.o.c. and tore the cheque up. All in all, a great time was had and we certainly hope to make a return visit in the near future.

perfect spacious house for families

What a find! The photos do not do justice to this lovely spacious house. It was beautifully clean and well appointed with plenty of room for a family of 5. Our 3 teenagers were well served by beach plus beach bar on their doorstep and we loved being a short walk to the superb local market and the coffee shop! Further afield are large, empty beautiful beaches. The one at Suzac has an excellent restaurant - great for a sundowner or a leisurely lunch. If you need people the Royan is a must and no one is too old to enjoy the zoo at La Palmyre. For the more adventureous there are all sorts of water sports, many from the local plage des nonnes.

An Absolute Gem!

We had never booked online and so I began the process with trepidation. However, our fears were soon allayed with excellent communication from the owner in the UK and his british 'caretaker' in France. I would go so far to say that they virtually bent over backwards to accommodate our needs - putting in an extra bed for our little one, etc. When we arrived we were very impressed, the photos do not do this property justice. It is much more spacious than we expected and as it is new, it was very well built, very clean and the furniture, kitchen appliances, crockery etc were in first class condition. Its location is just fantastic - literally a 5 min walk to a beautiful beach with a great terrace bar and cafe on it. As there are several beaches - none get too busy and there was a good mix of families, sunseekers etc. The town centre is a 5 minute walk in the other direction with a very well stocked supermarket, cashpoints and a great market place. There are takeaways and a couple of nice restaurants. A further 5 mins away is the port area with several cafe / restaurant / creperies. If you have teenage kids - a trip to St George de Didonnes ( 10 min car journey) or the bustling 'city' of Royan (15 mins) will meet their needs. Great beaches also abound in this area and of course there is a wider selection of restaurants, bars and entertainment. There are a couple of mountain bikes at the property, and although we spent most of our time on the beach or drinking wine and relaxing (!) there is great scope for some pleasant rides through some large wooded areas. Looking further afield, you are only an hour from Cognac, and closer still is Palmyre Zoo.
I was reluctant to write this review as it will undoubtedly make booking this beautiful property harder in the future. However, it is only fair to the owner that I do so - we had a fantastic holiday and you should book with confidence; to quote the owner in an e-mail to me, "I promise you won't be disappointed' Never a truer word spoken.
One small point - my wife does not speak French and still got by in shops etc when I wasn't about, but if you have a few french phrases tucked away it will be much easier in restaurants etc - not all were English speaking. In summary - an absolute gem of a find - I will be in my family's good books for a long while yet! Give it a whirl and have a fantastic holiday.
