Makrigialos ('Long Beach') occupies its own bay in South East Crete, 25km (30 minutes drive) east of Ierapetra, along a coastline of secluded coves, and 35km south of Sitia in the Lassithi region. It is easily accessible from both of Crete's airports at Heraklion and Sitia, with its picturesque harbour and promenade, waterside tavernas, restaurants and cafes, the village is lively but still unspoilt. Its beautiful bay, long sandy beach and crystal clear water are matched by the friendly local hospitality. Behind lie rolling hills with delightful panoramic views from out of the way villages where you can experience genuine ethnic cuisine. The many nearby attractions include the gorges of Pefki, Dasaki and Pevrolakia, water-park at Ierapetra, day boat trip to nearby Lefki island, wine tasting at the Kaspa monastery and traditional Cretan evenings in Pefki. Makrigialos also plays host to a popular music festival in June.

What a fantastic villa, so well presented and stylishly fitted out.

Probably has the better all round views on the site.

The villa and it's grounds are very well looked after, they could not be any more well kept.

Excellent communications from the owner and also very helpful.

The beach at the harbour is VERY safe for young children as the sea is very clean and shallow there.

The other beach through the Sunwing Hotel has beautiful golden sand and is very clean. It is also safe for children but a little deeper then the harbour beach.
We were the only people on this beach during our visit but the hotel had closed the week before, so I dont know how busy it would get during the main season.

There is also a lot of good cafes / bars at the harbour beach.

I would definitely recommend this villa and the area.

Me and my family travelled at the end of October which was out of season, some of the bars and restaurants were closed but there were still enough to choose from.

We all felt very safe walking around the resort at any time day or night.

I dont know if we were lucky or not but the weather was fantastic ranging between 25 - 30 degrees.

I rented a car whilst in Crete and found that it was very easy to drive over there as there is not a lot of traffic on the roads. Some of the Cretians are a bit inpatient and overtake you on the bends of the mountain roads but if you dont let them push you, you will be fine.

Now you have your hire car you should take a drive and go and visit Spinalonga the leper colony island. A great boat trip and well worth a visit. Plenty of other places to visit if you dont mind a little drive.

I would definitely stay in this villa again when we visit Crete next time.
