Travel:
By road - easy access from all the ferry Ports in the North with regular services from the UK the shortest driving distance would probably be from Caen about five hours but the shortest crossing from England would be Dover to Calais which would take about eight hours to drive from. There is also a service from Rosyth in Scotland to Zebrugge in Belgium which is a 9 hour drive.
Flying - Three airports within easy reach
Poitier is closest about 50 minutes drive with regular low cost flights with Ryanair
Limoge is about 1 hour again with low cost flights
La Rochelle about 1 hour 20 mins again with low cost flights
try easy jet, Flybe and Ryanair
All these airports have excellent car hire facilities.
Travel directions to the house will be provided when booking, it is a very straight forward short 10/15 minute drive from the main N10 motorway exit
The area:
Situated in a small hamlet and is set within beautiful rolling French countryside offering wonderful peace and tranquility yet being only a few minutes by car from a beautiful local market town, Civray,on the banks of the river Charente and has a twice weekly typical French market as well as street cafes lovely little shops, patisseries, supermarkets and banks. This is a really beautiful little town with lots to offer including a wonderful open air swimming lido and a recent addition, an internet cafe. Also close is river swimming, canoeing, horse riding, fishing etc. but there is also a fantastic little tourist office in the town.Around the house there are miles of quiet lanes you can go for endless walks and cycle and the River Charente is only few minutes walk also.There are two major theme parks for families only an hour away, futurescope which is amazing and a fabulous water park based at lakes. The fabulous west coast with it popular resorts and beaches is only 1 hour away
The region:
Known as the second sunniest region in France, after the Mediteranean, this is an unspoilt gem of a place, with a true taste of France and is home to the the fabulous Cognac area There is lots to see and do if you want to, the local people are absolutely charming, but you cannot fail to fall in love with this region with the fabulous French way of life and peaceful pace in which people here live. The terrain is soft and gentle with meandering rivers and endless fields of sunflowers in the summer.
