Casa Pietra is an old farmhouse in a quiet sunny location in the Bormida Valley, that has been lovingly renovated with the original stone facades and vaulted ceilings restored and all services and fittings modernised, to create a stunning home that provides comfort and style in a tranquil setting. The property can accommodate up to 10 people, with 4 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 shower rooms, a large kitchen, a dining room and a living room. The floors are tiled throughout and all external windows and doors are double-glazed and have traditional wooden shutters. Two of the bedrooms have their own balconies and there is an ensuite bedroom which has French windows opening on to the courtyard. Casa Pietra has an attractive garden, with shrubs, fruit trees, a covered terrace, including a large gas-fired barbecue and also two other the patios. There is a paddling pool for children and a larger frame pool available in the summer months. There is parking for 6 cars.

The Bormida Valley is a quiet and sunny area, with gently sloping hills covered for the most part in vines and hazelnut groves. It is a beautiful and tranquil location and in easy reach of many places of interest, such as Asti, Aqui Terme, Canelli, Alba, Genoa and Turin. The area is renowned for its excellent cuisine and wines in particularly Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato and Brachetto. You can visit most vineyards to sample and purchase these excellent wines at reasonable rates, and there are many wonderful restaurants within easy reach serving local and Piemonte gastronomic specialities, such as truffles and Robiola cheeses. There are footpaths and tracks for walking and small quiet roads for cycling; Acqui Terme has a magnificent thermal baths centre and there are various markets at all the nearby villages and towns. The Italian Riviera and its many beaches is an hour's drive away and the Italian Alps just over an hour’s drive with the Ligurian mountains much closer.

One of these routes - the Langa Astigiana - takes in Bubbio and circles the hills surrounding Casa Pietra, where you can see several castles and towers as well as farms specialising in goats cheese production, chestnuts, fruits and medicinal herbs. In the hilly terrain of the Langa Astigiana there are many nature trails and paths.

What can I say..Casa Pietra is just beautiful! From the moment I booked with Dan, to our goodbye to David (who looks after the house) it was all easy and relaxed. I loved the look of the house from the photos- especially the kitchen- but once we arrived and saw it in person, the photos do not do it justice. We wanted to live there! The house has been renovated to a high standard which is obvious. It is homely, clean, very comfortable and interesting with its different levels and little nooks (like the toilet under the stairs!) The windows and french doors are made of wood and when open give each room a beautiful feel. It has an old quaint style but with modern amenities. Perfect.

There were 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 children - 14,11,9 and 7 and there was enough space both inside and outside. The rooms are a really good size and the noise level (from the kids upstairs!!) wasnt too bad at all if you were in the rooms downstairs. Did I mention I loved the kitchen!? I even did the dishes! There were three places to eat your meals, kitchen bench, dining room or outside on the patio taking in all the beautiful views, smells and sounds. A quiet area but not far to get to towns. There is a great supermarket called BENNET at Acqui Terme. There are markets to go to and walking around Acqui Terme and Bubbio is lovely and all the people we came across were friendly and really helpful. It really is a lovely area to stay.

David who looks after the property was very helpful and friendly and was always available to answer questions. He made us feel very welcome and it was lovely being greeted by him after our long journey of flying and driving to arrive there on our first day. The welcome items were a great touch.

Our only regret is that we only stayed 3 nights. I wish it had been atleast 7 so that we could have relaxed and enjoyed not only the local area but also the house.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone. It has everything you need (even a pool), it doesn't have a televison which is good because you can then spend valuable, quality time with those that you are there with and enjoy where you are... "Italy" !!!
It is hard to choose a place from the internet with a couple of photos, but let me tell you with Casa Pietra.... you have nothing to worry about!

Absolutely Lovely

We were a group of three couples and were absolutely thrilled with our stay at Casa Pietra. The home is lovely - very clean, warm and updated (modern kitchen and baths were fantastic) while still maintaining the charm and warmth of a country farmhouse. Customer service was also top-notch, with a host that was both friendly and helpful.

The home is in a very quiet little valley, just outside a charming village. It's a perfect location for relaxing, as well as bicycling or walking. We enjoyed dinner at the Castle restaurant in Bubbio one evening, and the small grocery store there provided the most delicious freshly cut steaks for our barbeque one evening.

We took several day trips, and while this house is really away from the hustle and bustle it wasn't any trouble at all to get away to some of the larger towns or even big cities for the day. We were a little worried that lack of internet connection at the house would be inconvenient, but were able to find places to get online with our laptop in the larger towns and cities that we visited. If you can't break away from the internet for your quiet time at the house we suggest getting a data plan for your laptop from your phone company or one of the Italian ones.

Our one regret was not having more time to relax at the house, we had planned so many day trips that we didn't get to take full advantage of the comfort and quiet that Casa Pietra provided. We would not hesitate to recommend this property.
