The village of Flayosc
Flayosc is the perfect location to relax and enjoy the beauty of Provence, only 40 minutes away from the busy tourist spots of the coast. The village has excellent shops for food, several bars and a wide choice of restuarants, a weekly market, pharmacy, bank, laundry/dry-cleaner and a wine co-operative. It also has a tourist office offering excellent information about the area. Especially during the summer months there are many concerts and other festivities in the village.
History
Flayosc was a Roman settlement with a Roman road passing nearby. The village was defended by its circular wall of houses, much still visible today. In the wall you'll find three sarrazines doors and there are several ancient fountains. In the centre of the village stands the large St. Laurent church, which dates back to the 11th Century, with its fortified and decorated bell tower.
The area
Flayosc is situated only 40 minutes away from the sandy beaches of the St. Tropez bay, and only 40 minutes away from the dramatic scenery of the Lake St. Croix and the Gorges de Verdon - the Grand Canyon of Europe - which is great for all kinds of watersports. This area has plenty of perched villages, olive mills, daily genuine Provencal markets, wine tasting at wine domaine & châteaux and a wide choice of restaurants - from pizza to first class gourmet restaurants. There are 15 challenging golf courses within an hour's drive.
