Private swimming pool shares with one other trullo. Huge terrace and private land for outdoor eating and recreation. Notes: Many trulli are close to others because of their origin as storage houses. Ours are genuinely set in their own countryside, with peace for miles around. It took us a long time to find this, yet only a few minutes' drive from Alberobello. We also wanted a hill for spectacular views. Many trulli are cheaply converted, using pine instead of the more traditional oak. Features like doors and windows are often altered to fit manufactured items insead of handmade. We have spare no expense to make everything as traditional as possible whilst ensuring modern convenience and the highest standards. Italian digital TV, but with two Engilsh channels (one is news). DVD. Stereo radio/CD/USB for digital music. Sun loungers. Outdoor table and chairs. Barb-b-q. Shade unbrellas. Iron/ironing board/washing machine/dryer. Microwave/Dishwasher.

More information: The trullo was purchased and renovated as our family holiday home and Italian dream. Therefore everything is done to a much higher standard than typical holiday accommodation. For example the pool is full size. Expensive oak was used rather than cheaper pine because oak was the traditional material. As much opf the original stone as possible was used. The kitchen has far more equipment than standard self catering. We wanted the perfect combination of beautiful countryside, but no more than 5 minutes' drive from the facilities of a good local village with restaurants and shops. We searched more than 100 properties before finding the perfect spot with great views as well!

We spent a long time finding a genuinely private site - many trullis are very close to each other as they were originally agricultural storage. Yet we wanted facilities of Alberobello nearby. Many trulli are cheaply converted. We spent extra to have authentic oak rather than cheap pine, have fittings made to fit original dimensions rather than change things to fit manufactured goods. We have spent time and money on every detail to make this our bit of heaven. Traditional rustic Puglia, yet with all modern conveniences.

Peaceful and Perfect

Having spent a very happy and relaxing 10 days in Trullo Olivo, we can thoroughly recommend this accommodation and location. The owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and convenient and the trulli have been restored and converted in a sympathetic and stylish manner.

The trulli are situated in totally peaceful countryside but the small town is only a couple of miles away and wonderful restaurants abound. Our favourite by far was La Cantina with its Cucina A Vista as the food was outstanding and no-one laughed at my terrible Italian. It does get busy though and we had to eat a bit earlier than is normal to be sure of a table in what is quite a small restaurant. The only place we ate in that was truly terrible was a pizza restaurant called Terminale; to be avoided at all costs.

We spent several happy afternoons wandering, gelati in hand, around the local hill top towns. We didn't see much of the beaches, although there are many, as we preferred to stay by the pool where it was quiet and we could make our own pot of coffee to bring down on a tray and enjoy the lovely surroundings. We did, however, go to the local caves one overcast late afternoon to see the stalactites and stalagmites which were amazing and well worth a visit.

The market in Alberobello was a source of wonderful fresh produce and we duly bought bags full of lovely fish, bread, tomatoes etc., and cooked up a feast using the built in barbeque at the trullo. There's even fresh basil growing outside the trulli for you to add to your tomato salad. This proved to be a most cost effective and fun way to eat and the market traders were tolerant of our halting attempts at speaking Italian. You can end up with rather more than you bargained for though so, if you don't speak Italian, at least learn the word for "enough".

Lovely trulli ill equiped for unseasonal weather

Beautiful setting hidden down a rocky track 5 minutes drive from Alberobello. Refurbishment has been carried out very sympatheticlly and to a high standard and was very clean inside. Grounds were a little unkempt. Fittings were a little disappointing, but adequate and TV did not function for the entire week. During our stay we had very unseasonal weather with rain every day and numerous storms which disabled power. This in turn meant no water supply. No torches, candles or bottled water to help ease the camping condtions and not the most proactive agent. I have informed the owner of these issues as he is very professional with the previsit service. Sought out the sun on the Adriatic coast - just 20 mins - lovely old walled towns and miles upon miles of olive trees. Spoilt for choice with restaurants and wonderful food.
Owner's Response: The weather was not so much "unseasonal" as entirely freak. There were major electrical storms that led to widespread power cuts, including to the water system, and TV disruption across the region.

It is unfair to blame the trullo for that! This has never happened before, and we can only provide so far for highly unusual occurrences. Our agent was on the scene rapidly and tried to assist as much as possible, but this was not a normal event. We worked with a beseiged utilities to restore electricity and water as fast as possible, but they were inundated with similar calls.

Nonetheless torches and candles have been provided in response to the feedback.

Plentiful bottled water is always supplied in Welcome Packs, but it was not possible instantaneously to provide enough bottled water for showers and baths!

Hopefully such a natural freak event will not occur again and we are sorry for any disruption to what sounds like an overall enjoyable holiday in a "beautiful setting".
