Eating Out in Lagos:
We tend to favour the traditional taverns and adegas where authentic Algarvian dishes are served. There are two excellent local local restaurants next door to Patio do Convento called Escondidinho (fabulous fresh grilled fish) and Alberto's (excellent meat and fish dishes). Simply follow the road up the hill and you will find both restaurants just past the GNR /Police headquarters..
Local desserts and pastries are very good too. Try Pastes de Nata - a delicious Portuguese version of custard tart or Pudim Flan (known elsewhere as Creme Caramel).
Portuguese wines (red and white) are very good, very reasonable priced and readily available in the larger supermarkets such as Intermarche / Pingo Doces. If you're eating lunch a vinho verde is light and refreshing
Here are some recommended restaurants in and around Lagos :-
Adega de Marina (very reasonable fish & seafood), Cantinho Algarvio (mid priced Algarvian), Estrela do Mar, Do Cais (International / expensive)
Lagos Beaches:
Meia Praia or São Roque - This broad expanse of sand stretches for 4 km (2.5 miles) and offers all kinds of facilities for those who enjoy water sports. Midway between Lagos and Alvor stands the 18th century Meia Praia fort and at the end lies Palmares Golf Course with its views over Alvor estuary.
West of Lagos lie a succesion of inlets and beaches overlooked by sandstone and limestone cliffs such as Praia de Luz, Salema, Zaviel and Ponta de Piedad where you can take a boat trip to the caves.and grottoes.
