Situated just a four minute walk from the beach, with the dramatic backdrop of the mountains,this pretty studio is a perfect romantic hideaway.Yet it is within easy walking distance of several restaurants and shops. It is ideal for two to four people. The main room is L-shaped with kitchen, dining and lounge areas. The bedroom is on the same level and sleeps two. Above the lounge area is a mezzanine with a small window overlooking the bay which also can sleep two. A sofa bed in the lounge area can also sleep two.There is a bathroom with shower, wash basin and washing machine. There is constant hot water. We are well equipped with fridge-freezer,iron,television, microwave, dish-washer,ovens, hair-dryer etc. - everything one might need.The patios are spacious with suitable garden furniture for dining and sun-bathing.There is a barbecue.The south west facing patio has a charming rustic awning and provides shade from the sun.The patios are surrounded by wall, so there is privacy and peace

Overlooked by two Genoese watch towers, the whole of the southern coastline is a fantastic place to visit. The beaches and coves are indescribably lovely and even in summer's peak season, some are deserted.The sea is warm and abounds with all kinds of marine plants and animals. The perfume of the marquis tempts you to explore the hinterland; the mountains rise steeply from the beach. Here, mysterious forests cover almost half the island.Waterfalls and trout streams cascade down. Austere towns cling fiercely to the granite face of the rocks. Wild goats, timid and in a frenzy to escape, climb perilously up the craggy outcrops. Each town one visits has its history. Ajaccio, the capital is the birthplace of Napoleon.(It also has many excellent shops and restaurants).Corte, further north is the old fortress capital,seat of the old island parliament. Filitosa in the south boasts prehistoric menhirs. I hope that I have whetted your appetite because the cuisine is wonderful too!

  • Bedroom 1 is conventional with 2 single beds, wardrobe etc. Bedroom 2 is in a mezzanine, situated above the lounge area and reached by a wooden decorative steps/ladder, as seen on one of the photographs. This has a window overlooking the bay of Ajaccio and contains the double mattress, storage shelves, mirror and bookcase. There is a sofa bed in the lounge. Theoretically, six people could sleep in the studio, but I feel that it is more suited to a maximum of four.

Description of immediate neighbourhood: The studio is situated on a hillside and is surrounded by other studios and houses.Some residents live there all the year and some use their properties as holiday homes. The studio is therefore not isolated and is a secure place to live. At the same time,the walled garden offers privacy and the single gate entrance makes the patios safe for young children. Please ask if you have further queries.

Food/restaurants: Corsica has its own cuisine which is quite distinctive. The charcuterie and all pork dishes are excellent because the pigs run wild in the maquis and the flavour of the herbs imparts itself to the meat. The cheeses are also wonderful. Fish soup, made from local freshly caught fish is a speciality of the region as are mussels. Corsican wine tends to be strong and there are some prestigious vineyards on the island. Wine is cheaper than it is in England. If you book a holiday,I shall send you a list of restaurants in our area, together with my estimate of their prices ( cheap, moderate or expensive).

Trips: There are day boat trips that leave Porticcio for the south of the island or to the north of the island, eg the red rocks near Porto. You can save going into Ajaccio by car and take the ferry across the bay.Its a pleasant way to go. All sorts of trips leave from the beach at Porticcio. Lessons in every form of water sport can be booked locally. Taking the train from Ajaccio to say Corte is an exciting way to see the island and it means that the usual car driver gets a rest. The sights are spectacular!
