Our two richly decorated apartments are ideal as a vacation hideaway or a relaxing retreat if you plan to stay longer. Both are only 1 mile from the ocean in beautiful Mar Vista, right next to Venice/Santa Monica. We're on a treed residential street, & top-flight restaurants, cinemas and shopping are only 3 minutes away, and the famous Santa Monica & Venice beaches are only 5 min. down the street. 1) Our 2-bdrm 'Dacha in the Sky' crowns the top of a California Craftsman duplex and has recently been exquisitely renovated with new hardwood floors, queen beds, Persian carpets, new furniture and all new fixtures, an office/guest bedroom with piano, wide-screen CTV, 5-CD player, DVD, washer/dryer, full kitchen w/ microwave and gas stove, off-street parking. Max. 4 guests. 2) Our studio cottage 'Beethoven's Bungalow' features full kitchen & utensils, full bathroom, queen bed, CD, internet & cable TV,washer/dryer, skylights and backyard patio with view of our fruit trees. Max. 2 guests.

The large and airy master bedroom features casement windows and a walk-in closet, reading nook and cedar linen chest. The equally large and sunny second bedroom, which can also be used as an office, includes a writing desk facing a view of the neighborhood, and a beautiful studio upright piano. Our cozy den features a new reclining armchair and sofa that can pull out to an additional guest bed, along with a widescreen hi-def television complete with DirecTV premium channels, DVD player, and a 5-CD stereo. French doors in the den open to a spacious outside patio deck with a distant view of the mountains and ocean. The deck overlooks a charming backyard (lit by lanterns at night) that is home to our lemon and orange trees -- you can pick lemons right off the tree from the deck! -- and framed by bougainvillea, a trickling fountain and an herb garden. We have a sunny full-equipped kitchen, central air and heating, high speed WiFi, laundry facilities (shared) & off-street parking.

Our beautiful '2-bedroom 'Dacha in the Sky' and our studio 'Beethoven's Bungalow' are situated only one mile from the ocean in beautiful Mar Vista, right next to Santa Monica. We're on a treed residential street, where you can pick lemons in our backyard, and visit top-flight restaurants, cinemas and antique shops are only 2 minutes away. Hollywood studios are 10-minute drive. If you drive or bike down our cross street you'll arrive at the fabulous beaches of Santa Monica and Venice in only 4-5 minutes. Biking, water skiing, swimming, hang-gliding, surfing, hiking, jazz clubs -- they're all only a bike ride away! We're free way close, and Disneyland is a mere 30 minutes away.

    There is a $35/night charge for each additional guest, maximum 4 adults total in apartment.
    Four-night minimum stay. A $500.00 (U.S.) deposit must be made in order
    to confirm your reservation. For stays longer than four nights, the balance
    must be paid on or before arrival. We accept major credit cards.
    Two adults maximum for stays longer than two weeks. No children please.
    All utilities and amenities included, as well as local phone calls, internet
    service and laundry facilities. There is a $75 house cleaning fee. No pets.

A laundry cabina iis nestled next to the bouganvilla in the backyard, with a washing machine and dryer (shared with other tenants). We assumed James' Dacha would be charming from his ad, but we didn't realize how charming it was until we arrived at this lovely spot. James was there to greet us and welcome us and helpus settle in, showing us around the apartment and even suggesting the best cafes
and restaurants and the "out of the way" places to visit in LA. The beds were extremely comfortable, the TV and CD setup easy to use and the kitchen perfect for our needs since we love to cook. Best of all, his lovely home is filled with beautiful artwork (great masks from Venice!) , and though it only one mile from the beach it's very
quiet and peaceful. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the afternoons on the patio overlooking a lovely garden with lemon trees, after a particularly long day of sightseeing in Disneyland. (There's a reserved parking space for guests, which was convenient for us). This place is a GEM, and we certainly hope to return next year and will highly recommend this place to our friends Thank you, James!

Was helpful at the beginning, fixing the sound on the tv and turning up the heat. But went incommunicado after picking up the rent, not bothering to answer simple emailed questions such as how to access the promised washer/dryer, or more importantly, when I should expect to receive my security deposit refund. (Did get the refund 12 days later.)
Place was noisier than expected -- lots of rules about keeping the noise level down on our end, but we could hear the downstairs television. Pack earplugs.
Neighborhood itself was fine and minimal road noise.
Owner's Response: We are genuinely surprised and can't believe this is the same Eilleen who came to visit us! This is our very first complaint we have had in the past 9 months and 42 reservations -- virtually everyone before Eilleen has expressed how much they have thoroughly enjoyed their stay and the friendliness, peace and quiet that's provided here. We enjoyed having Eilleen here but we were never communicated with by phone during her stay -- if we had been we would never have been "incommunicado" at all! If she texted us on the computer, we certainly did not receive any such messages. We take pride it attending to our guests for whatever concerns or questions they may have, and we certainly have had many wonderfully positive guest book comments to attest to this, which we're happy to show. Also, on the particular week Eilleen's party was here, I was out of town part of the time on an emergency, as I had to put my ailing dad in a hospice as well as making arrangements for visits from our family coming in from around the country . I showed Eilleen the direct phone and email contacts for a dear friend who lives nearby who can be called up to help with any questions or emergencies in the apartment if I am away, but alas our friend was never contacted by Eilleen's party during her stay with any of these concerns. As for the noise she mentions, this too is a first from any of our guests and she certainly never mentioned this to us. We are terribly sorry if Eileen wished we could have been more communicative and give enough attention to her, which we can certainly provide, but again we are perplexed she did not communicate her concerns to anyone while she was visiting our very friendly, well-regarded and lovely place. Come back for free night on us, Eilleen!
