About the Area:
The hilltop village of Colmurano is the ideal base for a relaxing but interesting holiday with so many diverse places to visit nearby. Colmurano itself holds many festivals in the summer months the largest of which is the music extravaganza, (Pizzagra/Artistrada) drawing people from all over Italy. Many historic towns and villages are easily reached. The Roman ruins of Urbs Salvia are only a five minute drive away, and its local restaurant 'Le Logge' a must for lunch or dinner! San Ginesio, again close by, is host to the 'Palio' where the towns four local districts compete against each other in a jousting competition where they re-enact the storming of the main gates. Civitanova beach is 25 mins away and is home to a huge Saturday market, other beaches, Porto San Giorgio and Porto Saint'Elpido, are a little further down the coast. A trip into the mountains via Sarnano (thermal spa town) will take you up to the beautiful turquoise lake 'Fiastra' and Sibillini National Park.
Things to do:
Every weekend in the summer all the villages hold festivals celebrating the food and wines of the region. Our local village, Colmurano boasts (among others) a music festival featuring many types of bands and groups, and a two day go-cart extravaganza with races on the local roads! In the winter we have a chocolate festival.
Most of the local villages have a market day providing plenty of chances to stock up on local cheeses and meats and in the case of Civitanova market ,shoes and handbags! There are plenty of small theatres nearby with many and diverse productions, and a little further afield ,Macerata hosts the world famous opera festival in July/August. Also in those months Urbisaglia hosts a classic drama season in the Roman amphitheatre. If you prefer to shop there are many tempting designer outlets nearby! However, if you want a quiet restful holiday then this is the perfect place to chill out, relax, and enjoy the views!
The Sibillini mountains are nearby and provide a wealth of walking or cycling opportunities! In the spring there are carpets of wild flowers, orchids and helebores etc. Later on, if you are lucky, you will see clouds of butterflies in their thousands, a truly incredible sight. There are many paths if you want to explore, with amazing views in all directions and plenty of photo opportunities.
The water fountains that you see in the mountains and in the local villages provides water from natural springs and is pure and clean. You will frequently see the locals filling bottles to use for drinking water, mostly because it pure, but also because its free! So, feel free to help yourself on your travels!
For those of you who like the wild life, you will frequently see birds of prey and sometimes wild boar.
The countryside is ever changing depending on the crops being grown, but there are allways many fields of sun flowers, a truly amazing sight.
Golf:
Conero golf club (Sirolo) is an hours drive away and offer a tournament standard course. Golf clubs can be hired for the day.
