Photos and Description of this Syracuse holiday villa Only 2 km from a picturesque fishing village, and 15 km from beautiful town Noto

This villa is in San Lorenzo, a beach resort, just 2 km from the fishing village Marzamemi, only 100 meters from a beautiful sandy beach. A footpath leads from the villa straight to the beach with crystal clear bathing waters. In the nearby town Marzamemi are local bars and good restaurants. The villa distances only 1 km from the stunning coastal reserve of 'Vendicari', great for walks and swimming. The village Marzamemi boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as swordfish or cherry tomatoes. The enormous garden (appr. 2.400 mq.) surrounding the terrace is characterised by palm trees and prickly pear cacti, called “ficodindia”. The villa consists of two double bedrooms on the first floor (one with child bed), a bathroom with shower, a living room, a spacious kitchen with dining table and wood oven. The terrace with large shaded cover is ideal for outdoor eating, and aperitifs after a day at the beach, which is just behind the corner.

San Lorenzo, which lies 2 kilometres to the north of Marzamemi, marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast. Here the shore is characterised by golden sand beaches, turquoise seas and white limestone rocks. San Lorenzo borders on the natural reserve of ‘Vendicari’. Here you’ll find a breathtaking variety of Mediterranean flora and fauna, exotic beaches and Byzantine ruins. It is also a veritable oasis of rest and tranquillity for an array of bird species. Heading south towards the south-eastern tip of Sicily, you find a fishing village called Portopalo. Taking the road from Marzamemi to Portopalo, but turning off before an impressive castle on the sea, one can turn left and visit the old ‘Tonnara’, one of the most scenic and extraordinary sights to be seen in Sicily. Noto, a magnificent little city famous for its stunning Baroque architecture, lies 20 kilometres away. You can’t miss the traditional afternoon stroll down its main street.

The Area: San Lorenzo marks the beginning of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Sicilian coast. Marzamemi: Marzamemi lies 2 kilometres to the south of San Lorenzo. The fisherman’s village has a Promenade, a beautiful Piazza and a port with vividly painted boats. The tradition of all things marine is still very much alive in Marzamemi today. Only recently has it become a popular destination for Italians who enjoy the combination of the area’s natural beaches and the vibrancy of an authentic coastal village. The village boasts many restaurants, pizzerias and shops selling delicious local produce such as locally caught and processed tuna and swordfish or the famous cherry tomatoes from nearby Pachino.

Syracuse: Syracuse is a historic city in southern Italy, the capital of the province of Syracuse. The city is noted for its rich Greek history, culture, amphitheatres, architecture and association to Archimedes, playing an important role in ancient times as one of the top powers of the Mediterranean world; it is over 2,700 years old. Syracuse is located in the south-east corner of the island of Sicily, right by the Gulf of Syracuse next to the Ionian Sea.

Other Activities: Escursion to Mount Etna, 100 km away.

This is a lovely house close to a good beach

Review Submitted: September 23, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
This is a lovely house with easy access to a good beach with good paddling/swimming/snorkelling/diving off rocks. We went in september and it was still very very hot (a bit too hot for pregnant women + small children)
The heat prevented us from doing much sightseeing but Noto and Syracusa are well worth a visit. The nearby nature reserve at Vendacari has excellent beaches (you can actually walk to some of them from the villa) and interesting walks and wildlife
There is a shop for basics (bread, wine) within walking distance and good drinking/nighttime strolling/eating out in Marzimemi. Fish meat and veg can be bought from a little street just behind the main square in Pachino
Nico the key holder is extremely nice and helpful.

Als Wochenendhaus passabel....

touristin Tettnang, Deutschland
Review Submitted: June 15, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Schade!
