Excellent place for a long w/e or full holiday. Highly recommended indeed, 2 of the best holidays we have had (both 5 day long w/e's). Totally unique tower, very comfortable and clean indeed, peaceful and yet in the heart of the Las gavarras zona verde - like a national park with great walking, biking (hills or flat). Have been there twice - Autumn and Spring - both times crisp mornings turned into hot days and we swam in the sea, gazed at the pyrenees glistening in the distance, did lots of walking, sleeping and wandering around beautiful villages (almost like tuscany was 20 years ago before the tourists invaded) and ate and drank like kings and queens! The tower has all the mod cons and masses of cooking stuff, crockery etc so you don't have to wash up to eat! (good dishwasher - phew) , and a fab conservatory off the kitchen, log burner, efficient heating etc and crisp white linen and good quality towels. Great location - surrounded by loads of very old and pretty small villages (which you can bike too or drive to) full of great bars, restaurants with typical spanish relaxed timing - we spent long lazy lunches and dinners at Madremanya (in the placa there are 2 great bars/cafes' full of young arty people up until the early hours, but great for an early supper too!) San Feliu de Boada, and Pals, plus an excellent local market sprawling around the whole of La Bisbal on Friday mornings. Sa Tuna beach was great - 2 good restaurants there with delicious fish and afternoon sun, plus if you're into culture Dali used to hang out around here - his fisherman cottage near Cadaques is worth getting to - we actually found a v rough (no tarmac) coastal road to get there which was a great drive in itself!
Only takes 45 minutes from the airport (not Barcelona). You should hire a car though, but a v small one is fine, just drive carefully up the bumpy road to the property. You can walk into the local town La Bisbal to collect morning bread, but we preferred to drive! It would be great for children too because there is so much space, outdoor life and yet beaches not far away at all. The owner was very helpful, full of suggestions and answers to questions, but sensitive enough to leave us to ourselves completely (lives in the main house 300 yards away). All in all a really lovely place to stay, very special indeed.
