'Shearwater' is a perfect family holiday home or base for a short break away from the hustle and bustle of city life. In a private location but within easy distance of the heart of a fashionable West Cork village. Only a short drive from everything the beautiful Miizen Peninsula has to offer and ideally situated for touring this lesser known region of Ireland. Although it is also well placed for day excursions to the more famous Lakes of Killarney, woods of Glengariff, Blarney Castle or the City of Cork.Less famous than its Kerry neighbour, West Cork is regarded as a 'place apart'. Fantastic ocean scenery, wild coasts, rugged hills, lush valleys and verdant hedgerows it is a magical area.

Schull is the nearest village to 'Shearwater', just a short trip down Mount Gabriel and you are in one of THE villages of West Cork. Lively all the year around it is particularly hectic at the height of the August yachting season when the pressure is really on. Out of that busy period there is plenty of time and space to enjoy the restaurants, bars and shops of the village. Beaches at Barley Cove are sandy and just a half an hour away, and there are small rocky coves all around the harbour area just down the road. Watersports predominate with canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, swimming and so forth. But 16kms away in either Bantry or Skibbereen there is golf. The local hotel has a pool and gymnasium. The archaeology society welcome visitors to their meetings and there is an outdoor activity organiser for energetic children.

    Christmas and New Year can be rented for €500 & €500 respectively or both for €850. A security deposit is taken of €150 per week booked. This is returned the week of departure.
    Less charges for electricity, oil & refuse. Metered on usage. Refuse €10 per bag. Electricity .20c. Oil.83c. per litre.
    It is expected that hous will be left clean and tidy.

  • The master bedroom and single bedroom are both on the second storey. The second small double and bunkroom are on the ground floor, adjacent to the family bathroom. The master bedroom has a shower and w.c. en suite and the small double has a wash hand basin in the room. There are two bunk beds and the lower bunk would actually accommodate two small children as it is actually small double bed size.

Notes: Beyond the living room there is a small sun porch. The house faces south west so even in bad weather there is a good sitting area to enjoy the view. The house is wheelchair friendly but the downstairs shower is located in the bath. The house is modern, cottage style with some attractive pictures and decorations. The sitting room area is cathedral style, rising the full height of the house. It is a very light and airy property, cosy in winter and cool in summer it works well for a family. However with the downstairs bathroom and bedrooms it is also suitable for smaller parties. The views from the front of the house are spectacular taking in the harbour and the other aspects are over gorse and fuchsia filled hills.
