Cultural Details:
Aradeo has greek-byzantine origins: the name comes from the greek word charadreon that means land crossed by streams. Indeed, Aradeo is on a fertile area rich of ground water and this may be the reason why it has a good production of oil, wine and wheat flours to make excellent homemade pasta.Spending a holiday here is a good opportunity to taste genuine food. The historical centre is very little but accurately restored:the XVII cent. village ancient door, the XVIII cent.Virgin Mary church, the XVII cent. St. John’s column. Next to the historical architecture, there are also important modern works like the town-hall and the theatre, where all the most relevant cultural activities and social events of Aradeo take place: concerts, national performances, local carnivals. Summer is then the right period for enjoying the DOLCE VITA: at night everywhere in Salento popular FESTIVALS called SAGRE,where everybody have fun tasting Salento FOOD, drinking good WINE and dancing the famous PIZZICA

Fly to Salento: Mediterranean Diet, Healthy Food:
Fly to Salento Travel Journal - Legumes are well known for their precious healthy properties:they represent one of the main ingredients to characterize the Mediterranean Diet,a lifestyle, such an extraordinary natural tool to prevent cancer, heart diseas, etc.Strongly advised for children, legumes are an excellent source of vegetable protein and provide the right balance of daily nutritional value.Salento is home for so many different legume courses... just think of 'ciceri e tria' (homemade pasta 'sagne-tria', chickpeas 'ceci', pieces of fried toast, extravirgin olive oil),or 'cecamariti e muersi' (pea soup, turnips, garlic, small pieces of fried toast, extravirgin olive oil), 'fave e cicorie selvatiche' (beans, wild chicory, extravirgin olive oil). Legume recipes mirror our old culinary tradition and way of living in Apulia, Southern Italy, a slow-living as authentic value: indeed they were most frequently used in the past by peasant people who cooked them into a clay pot 'pignata'.
