Evora and the Alentejo region:
Monte das Fontes is situated in central Alentejo, at a crossroads within 25 km of Evora, Evoramonte, Estremoz, Redondo and Borba, all homes to wonderful wines and culture.
Central Alentejo is one of the most authentic areas of Portugal where you will find a beauty and a rhythm of life that is gone from most of the rest of Europe. This is wine country, bull country, shooting country, riding country, and the best produce of Portugal is grown in the many farmsteads around. Evora, is a city of the UNESCO World Heritage. Evora has a rich History and Architecture and is hosting many cultural events as well as musical festivals. Evora being a fortified town, the amount of historical sites combined with trendy restaurants, bars and shops is therefore amplified. This concentration of points of interests makes the town seem even more magical and livelier to the first time visitor. The Alentejo cuisine and wines are known as some of the best in Portugal.
Water sports and other activities in Alentejo:
Unlike what is often thought about the region, Alentejo has actually a lot of water, due to its many lakes. Therefore, if you like water sports, Alentejo will seem like heaven. The many reservoirs around with plenty of good access points to the water are excellent for Winsurfing, jet-skiing, water-skiing and sailing.
Ballooning in Portugal began in Alentejo: it was chosen as the most suitable region due to the vast plains that are suitable for take off and landing. Waking up in the night to jump into a wicker basket lifted by a balloon into the Alentejo sky is an extraordinary experience as the first rays of the sun light up the plain: miles and miles of terrain, as far as the eye can see, are filled with brush strokes of colour. Horse riding, shooting, trekking, bird watching, wine tasting, special guided tours and other activities can be organized for our guests. Please contact us for more information.
