Delightful apartment, right in the heart of Valencia's Centro Historico

On the third floor of an old building in a quiet side street bang in the centre of town this quirky individual flat provides comfortable accommodation a stroll away from the delights of the central market, trendy shops and the lively cafes and restaurants for which the city is known. The apartment is light and airy with traditional ceramic tiles and high ceilings so that throughout the hot summer months it stays wonderfully cool. It has recently been modernised but the original features and layout have been retained to create a comfortable apartment full of character. Good quality furniture and fittings combine with an eclectic mix of pictures, plants, books, music and DVDs to enhance the homely atmosphere. The kitchen is particularly well equipped so that guests can make the most of having the extraordinary central market just round the corner. For those who prefer to eat out, there is a great choice of restaurants and tapas bars literally on the doorstep.

As the apartment is so centrally located, walking in any direction will bring you to places of interest. Turn left out of the front door heading south towards Plaza de la Ayuntamiento with its fountains. splendid main post office and beyond the modernista Estacion del Norte; or west, across Calle San Vicente where every procession seems to pass, you’ll find the central market, one of the largest in Europe. Opposite the market is La Lonja the elegant medieval silk exchange. A short step north takes you to Plaza de la Reina, crammed with outdoor cafes and dominated by the cathedral. Moving on from there you soon reach barrio del Carmen, the hub of the city’s nightlife. Turn right at the front door and round the corner to the east is the exuberant baroque Palacio de Dos Aguas which houses the ceramics museum, across the road is the lovely old university building and from there it's just a short hop to the main shops on Calle Colon.

The sitting room provides comfortable seating for 4. It has a TV and DVD and a good quality hi fi with amp and speakers. There is a good selection of books (in English) DVDs, and CDs. The kitchen is well equipped with food processor, electric beater, toaster, kettle and an excellent range of cooking utensils, sharp knives, good quality sturdy pans, baking dishes etc Rather than air conditioning, there are ceiling fans which are more in keeping with the character of the building and less damaging to the environment. Getting to the Apartment

The metro station at Colon is a few minutes walk from the flat and on a direct line to the airport, the service is regular and efficient. It takes about 20 minutes to get into town. Arriving by train you can either walk through Plaza Ayuntamiento to reach the apartment (about 10 minutes) or take the metro to Colon (one stop).

Getting to the Beach

One of the advantages of staying in Valencia is the easy access from the city to wonderful sandy beaches. You can take the metro and tram or a bus from just round the corner from the apartment to the port and city beach at Malvarrosa. It takes about 20 minutes. If you want to go further afield the lovely beaches of El Saler and La Devesa surrounded by pine forest in the national park at Albufera are about half an hour away on the bus.
