Championship Golf Course 20 mins away: Chateau De Vigiers 4* chamionship course - 20 mins away The much sought-after Donald Steel has created, at Château des Vigiers, a unique 18 hole, par 72 championship course set amidst plum trees, oak woods, lakes and, of course, vineyards. It has been designed so the Château is the centrepiece with the 9th and 18th finishing off in front of the building. However, you can see this aesthetically pleasing structure from many of the other undulating greens on the course. Although the course is a joy to play from start to finish, the 18th stands out. It's a dogleg over a ridge with the second requiring a shot over a lake to the green; a truly 'vintage finale' to a top round of golf.

Other activities in the area: Walking Cycling Canoeing on the Dordogne River Horse Riding

Other Activities: Canoeing, wine tours, golf, bowling, go-karting etc

Park Hyatt does French countryside

Review Submitted: January 10, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
Warm, comfortable, spacious and beautifully kitted out with the latest, from designer bed linen to the large flat screen TV and stylish black leather club lounges. Attention to detail was not lacking – large sumptuous bedside lamps had dimmers, there was even a pumping stereo with an iPod dock. Wireless internet worked seamlessly and with 4 bedrooms, a large dining and lounge area and a mezzanine alcove, there was plenty of room for all us to get away when the need arised. Stone walls, massive old oak beams, terracotta tiled floors, romantic French windows, oatmeal wall finishes all add to a an authentic rustic experience . . . but one with all the mod cons. Highly recommended.

Christmas 2008

------------------ London, UK
Review Submitted: January 6, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We rented out this house for Christmas and New Year, wanting to get away from it all in London. It certainly worked for us - 1 couple and 2 singles.

The house was in a lovely location, although a car is essential. (Tom Tom helped a lot too)

The photos dont do justice to the size and layout of the rooms and opening the shutters every morning was an additional delight. All facilities we required for our two weeks stay were there and the owner had arranged for a lovely Christmas tree tastefully dressed - an unexpected and pleasant surprise.

The owner left details of markets and recommended sights which we took advantage of - if we had wanted too we could have visited a local market almost every day, all equally delightful. The property would be equally good for a young family or two as there is plenty to do in the surrounding areas and enough room on the house to get away from the kids or each other if you so desired.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and would love to go again. (If a little ginger and white cat comes to call, see if he responds to "Hubert" (Ooberh) and feed him anything, although he is particularly fond of Goose.

A great getaway

I was blown away by the house on arrival- it was not at all what I was expecting. The first thing that struck me was the size of the house once inside- its deceptively big with rooms cropping up all over the place.

The centre piece of the house is the kitchen combined with the living space with a little gallery space as well. It was the focal point of our weekend- where we drank our wine and looked out onto the courtyard.

The scenery around the house was breathtaking with close access to endless vineyards.

The house was where we spent most of our weekend and it really made it a special break- everyone was constantly in a good mood- I dont think we could believe how lucky we'd been.

I would recommend it for the groups stated below, but I will most definitely be returning in the near future!

Incredible house with everything to hand

Review Submitted: November 26, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
We stayed at this amazing property for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. We spent a great deal of our time chilling out in the main living area. There is a large open plan living room/kitchen and dining area that gets great light from the big glass sliding doors. Everything else in the house is great too. There are 4 massive bedrooms but also extra space if your party is a little bigger.

We were about a 10min drive from Ste Foy le Grand. They have a fantastic market on a Saturday morning and we spent a great deal of money on some breath taking local cheese. We were also only 30mins from St. Emillion which was by far the highlight of the trip. It's a world herritage site and one of the most beautiful, romantic towns I've ever visited.

In terms of transport, you definitely need a car to get around and WHEN I go back I will fly into Bergerac vs Bordeaux. A Sat Nav is worth the money but be careful with it and try to stick to the main roads as ours seemed to want to bring us the scenic route (which is not the worst thing in the world I guess).

All in all, I don't think me or my friends have ever enjoyed such a highly relaxing time anywhere else.

Excellent property

Review Submitted: August 18, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Lovely house in the middle of the countryside, between St Emilion and Bergerac and a couple of hours from the coast. All amenities are provided, fully equipped kitchen, TV DVD player and a hifi with ipod capabilities. With 4 double bedrooms and a put me up there's plenty of room for a large family or group of friends. The neighbours are very friendly and there's a lovely covered area at the front of the house for dining outdoors. There's plenty of activities for kids in the area, horse riding, kayacs and a couple of lakes within 30km nearby where you can swim.

We had a great time around the area and even spent a couple of hours driving to Cape Ferret and Arcachone beach. The local tourist centre are very helpful and the local boulangerie makes great croissant. Shops in the area tend to close on Sundays and a few are closed on mondays as well, but that's just part of life in France.

I'd heartily recommend staying here if your looking for a little more than sitting on the beach getting a sun tan.
