House 222 Studio is located in the south coast of the island of Madeira, in the tourist zone of Caniço de Baixo, located between the city of Funchal and Santa Cruz's city. From here, you can enjoy a beautiful and resting view, on the limpid waters of the Atlantic Ocean. We have a great solar exhibition, during the whole year. Take advantage of the pleasant temperatures that you will find here. It is of referring that the air temperatures are on the average of 23ºC, being the minimum of 17ºC and the maxim of 28ºC. With relationship to the temperature of the water the average is of 19ºC, the minimum 16ºC and the maxim 24ºC.

Madeira is very famous for its natural environment, where the most important feature its Laurissilva Forest, a relic of the Tertiary Age, Which has been classified by UNESCO as World Nature Heritage Site. The Island's mild climate and a water temperature that never goes below 17ºC mean that you can be on the go all the time. It's ideal for a winter sun break. ***** Canico village is very small but pretty. The main square is located very close to the church, supermarket and a small selection of restaurants. When walking past the church you will find a few more restaurants, bank and another supermarket.

Madeira Island Curiosity: Madeira is a part of Portugal located in the Atlantic Ocean at 32† North Latitude and about 250 miles west of Casablanca, Morocco. The island is the tip of a gigantic mountain sticking up out of the ocean floor. Needless to say the island is mountainous. Due to the steepness of the mountain itself the ocean reaches a depth of 2000 metres (6500 feet) a very short distance from the shore. The capital is Funchal. A lovely town with many shops and resturants and all manner of interesting sights. There are 2 fine golf courses on the island. The Botanical Gardens are world famous. The hiking trails are breathtaking (both for the views and the terrain if you are not in good shape)

The appartment is the ground level in a typical maderian house (2 levels); at the end of a stairway (ca. 15 steps). The description on the web page is accourate (Jul 2008): The appartment is a studio (1 single room, kitchen and bedroom are niched).

The interior is as good as new, the flat itself is in good condition and well-maintained, the garden is well tended (but no english style ...; be aware of the sprinkler in the garden - ask for the time for sprinkling).

The owner provides support on request, e.g. maintaining the flat, info for shopping, restaurants, sightseeing, general info for Maderia (don't hesitate to ask!).
We had a pleasant holiday season and can recommend this location to a pair / 2 persons only. On arrival we were well received by the owner.

Un buen sitio para gente que busque tranquilidad. Hermosas vistas. Posibles problemas de aparcamiento en temporada alta. La dueña tiene un trato ameno y es muy agradable hablar con ella acerca de la isla. Sitio adecuado para viajeros que no vayan a tener coche.

Pleasant stay

This property is spacious, very clean and in a very good location with fantastic views from the garden. The kitchen is particularly well equipped, although bring your own cork screw. The owners live in an adjacent property and are very helpful and friendly. Sun loungers and other garden furniture are provided. While not especially modern, the studio is perfectly adequate for two people.

Just a few downsides:

The weekly tariff of 250 euros is for 6 nights not 7, so you are expected to pay an extra amount for the 7th night. This is confusing because most people expect a week to mean 7 nights.

The neighbours have a couple of yapping dogs. While they only bark intermittently they can be annoying at times, for example at 7.30 in the morning or while relaxing in the garden. Apart from this the studio is very quiet, no traffic noise at all.

It is difficult to park outside the house because the road is congested. However, we parked in the next street and just walked to the studio via the promenade, about 100 yards, which turned out to be no problem.
