Scottish Highlands & Islands holiday chalet: Strontian

I have visited Ardnamurchan a number of times over the years - I never want to leave and always want to rush back again! It was my first stay at Jura though with my German Shepherd, Yogi, and my sister and her Border Terrier, Daisy. I wanted a relaxing break, as I lead a very busy life at home on a hill farm with my hubby and our 2 year old son. Jura provided just that. The cabin was bright, airy, tastefully decorated, comfortable and warm, with everything you could need (shame we didn't get the welcome pack I have now read about though ;-) ) . Especially welcome for me was the free wifi - as I don't get broadband at home in the sticks! The weather was a bit wet, but it didn't stop us getting out and enjoying some lovely walks - Loch Shiel is a personal favourite as it hides the lovely cottage at Gaskan, which once was home to my favourite author, Mike Tomkies. A real highlight of my stay was the nightly visitor - a beautiful pine marten, and I was also told a wildcat lives in the vicinity, but unfortunately I didn't see it this time - perhaps the dogs may have had something to do with that! I will definitely be recommending Seaview Grazings to my family and friends, and will also return myself before too long. Thanks to Carol for a really warm and friendly welcome.

my name is annette we stayed at jura lodge strontain the week comencing 24/10/2009 the lodge was great with every thing u need the views were spectacular the hosts were very helpful i came here for my 50th birthday n had a great time i would recoment it to any one its great

We found Carol's directions were very accurate and easy to follow, and received a warm welcome when we arrived after a leisurely 3 hour drive from Glasgow Airport.

The lodge was large, warm and comfortable, and it was a lovely touch not to have to worry about finding basic essentials when we arrived - milk, bread, bacon, eggs, juice tea, sugar were all waiting for us in the well-equipped kitchen.

The living area is large and cosy, with a wonderful picture window looking out across the loch. Mingulay (and Jura next door) are among the highest lodges on the hillside, so the views are cracking.

Bedrooms were cosy and the beds very comfortable, and it was so dark and so quiet that we all slept like logs.

Bathroom has all mod cons and was clean and well-appointed.

Strontian is a small, welcoming village, with shops, pub/hotel and post office/general store all within easy walking distance from the lodge. A little further afield there are various other places to eat (again reachable on foot) and it is ideally located for exploring the islands (especially Mull), the peninsula and the Great Glen. Fort William (and Ben Nevis, Glen Nevis) is only 35 minutes away.

We all had a wonderful time here - and next time we visit the Highlands we'll certainly be making a return visit to Strontian and to Mingulay!
