The major benefits in renting this property are that it has extensive sea views, a private garden and parking for two cars – rare benefits indeed for a holiday home in this much sought after and ancient little fishing village. Situated in a commanding position and tucked away in a quiet residential area, Chy-an-Dowr - which literally translated from Cornish means “house by the sea” - has recently undergone an extensive renovation programme for the ensuing season. Constructed in the late sixties and designed with reversed level accommodation to take advantage of the sea views, the house has more of a bungalow feel to it as all of the living accommodation is on the ground floor as the lower ground floor garage and workshop is not used. Decorated in soft neutral colours throughout and furnished in a simple yet comfortable style, there are small rear and side gardens with suitable garden furniture – perfect for that BBQ after a lazy day on the beach!

With a profusion of narrow streets, blind alleys and history at every turn, Mousehole is the epitome of a picturesque Cornish fishing village in a quite beautiful setting. Here, in this enchanting little port, terraces of old cottages rise in tiers from a small, granite-walled harbour. Located just three miles westward from Penzance around Mounts Bay, and centred around an almost completely circular harbour, Mousehole has largely resisted modern day trappings and remains unspoiled by 21st century developments. Working fishing boats are still based in the harbour, protected from the might of the Atlantic by two sturdy breakwaters, (Cornwall’s earliest and begun in 1393) and today are accompanied by visiting yachts and pleasure craft, making the panorama of the harbour truly peaceful and idyllic.

Although situated on the fringes of the village, the award winning restaurant of the Old Coastguard Hotel is but a short stroll down the hill (little longer coming back maybe!) together with the quaint harbour, fishing boats and an array of galleries, shops and restaurants. Chy-an-Dowr is a perfect family holiday home as it is ideally located for those guests that wish to either use the house as a touring base for the spectacular Land’s End peninsula or just to relax, leave the car in the drive or even combine the two!
