Photos and Description of this Manche holiday apartment Set in the countryside a newly converted barn apartment or cottage near beach

A newly self catering apartment in a former barn or our sweet little cottage that used to be the old village boulangerie, roses round the door! Set within the grounds of large country house of over 3 acres, both have your own separate entrance and completely self contained... if you don't want to see us you don't! Take the Llama for a walk! Within 5 minutes of Utah Beach and set within the Park Naturel Cotentin & Bessin. We are ideal for long country or beach walks, there are rivers and canals, bird watching, the river Douve only 3km from us has a boat trip through the Marshes to see Cranes, Marsh Harriers, Egrets just to name a few species. It's possible from here to go to Paris for a day out or even to Jersey. Bayeaux half an hour away, Caen, now that's a city worth exploring where William the Conqueror ruled from and is buried.... St Vaast a UNESCO site 20 minutes away, Honfleur 2 hours...the problem here is there is too much to do! Our other property on this site is 10652.

Notes: This is a perfect place for a couple exploring the area who like peace and tranquility... as long as you like country noises then this is great. Stavros the donkey can't help himself when he sees someone - he brays, he's not ours but is totally convinced he belongs to us! We also have a flock of chickens, quite a few cockerels (that chant in the morning), as well as a goose, they have complete freedom to wander over all our land, our freshly laid eggs are available. As well as that we do have 3 small dogs and quite a few cats... none of which are allowed in the apartment or the cottage - but they all love visitors - so before you decide to come please be aware they will expect you to say hello when you come and go or are in the garden! Madge our Jack Russell does not understand being ignored. We're very close to the motorway (can't hear it) equidistant 8kms to Carentan, Ste Mere Eglise and Utah Beach. We're in the heart of the American sector for WW2 buffs.

Further details for this holiday apartment rental in Manche, France

Regional Park: Our house is set in Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park.. Utah Beach is located on the eastern side of the peninsular is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres 500 meters from our house. The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing. The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty. This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. Here on Utah Beach Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.

The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do! Don't forget GOLF plenty of courses. Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded. .With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals. Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally

Cycling & Walking Holidays tailor made.: Animals - we have Fernando the Llama who loves to go for a walk - he'll carry your pic nic if you want! 2 kune kune pet pigs, 2 very friendly goats, lots and lots of bantam & silkie chickens all at liberty and 2 little Sicilian donkeys due soon. Cycling or walking holidays...1,000 km of trails for cycling with one of the routes starting outside our gate! For those that want a gentle day 20 & 27 km routes from our house all mapped out - for those that want to go further on the harder more demanding routes we can drop you off and pick you up later. Come across with your bike on the Ferry to Cherbourg - either cycle down or we will pick you up. Package available to include pick ups maps etc. please just ask. Golf courses including Lynx courses nearby for you keen golfers. If you like local produce then there are many farms open to the general public, where you can see the produce being made and buy some to take home. It's possible to have tours round the Camembert factories.

Other Activities: Bird watching, dolphin & seal watching, boat trips round the invasion beaches, sand yachting, para wind surfing, beach combing.

Urlaubswoche im Oktober 2009

Review Submitted: October 18, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much - the Llama arrived today - how I wish you could have been here... still it means you have to come back to meet Fernando & take him for a walk!

This is the google translation ...

This house is wonderful for two people - cozy and comfortable. The equipment is described, for initial supplies are provided. the bed is prepared and on arrival the fire was burning in the oven and Madge (one of the dogs) was waiting with a ball - it was immediately at home. Tansy and Mike are two wonderful hosts - thank you for that relaxing week. We like to come at any time. Sabine and Jurgen We recommend this house and the place full of people who seek peace and quiet, loves animals are (There are goats, pigs, donkeys, chickens, geese, cats and dogs on the property) and no in close proximity to the hustle and bustle. The baker in Boisville for breakfast baguette is 5 km away and easily reached by bicycle.

The perfect holiday retreat

M12 Surrey
Review Submitted: September 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Barry & Maggie Surrey Aug 2009

Just returned from a fabulous stay in the Barn Apartment. Mike and Tansy are the perfect hosts and are able to give you advice on the best locations to visit and can also help with detailed maps. The accommodation is excellent, very comfortable and well equipped. I can see why Madge is mentioned in other reviews, you cannot help to get to know Madge as she loves to have a pal to play with. There is so much to see in Normandy, a week was not enough so we will definately go back again. The D Day beaches are a must, aslo Bayeaux. One thing to note, the accommodation is next to the church and the bells do ring throughout the night, might be a problem for light sleepers.
Owner's Response: The house used to be the farm for the church so we're right opposite. It's quite peculiar if the bells don't ring for whatever reason we don't sleep well, our room is the nearest to the bell tower, most of the time we don't hear them - they are like a heartbeat. Most folk hear them the first time d'angelis rings out then it becomes the norm.

Perfect Honeymoon in the Perfect Place

Joe & Laura Philadelphia PA USA
Review Submitted: July 30, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
We had an amazing honeymoon in Normandy, and we could not have been more pleased with the barn apartment. It was comfortable and clean, and we enjoyed being able to cook in the evenings and enjoy the cozy surroundings. Tansy and Mike were wonderful hosts, and really assisted us with our daily sojourns into the Normandy countryside.
We would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in planning a trip to the area; it is conveniently located to all the beaches and historic sights.
We are looking forward to returning not only to visit with Tansy and Mike, but also to see Madge the Jack Russell and Stavros the donkey, who always greeted us with us with enthusiam!
Owner's Response: Oh... thank you, we are so pleased to hear from you again and really do hope you will indeed come back.

Madge adores our visitors especially the ones that will play!

Stavros has been moved a field - we still hear him - but our new pygmy goat, Tin Tin, who was abandoned in the village and given to us by the Mayor is a huge colourful character almost makes up for Stavros a bit further away.

St Vaast La Hougue you visited has now been awarded UNESCO status, the visitor centre for the Park has been completed, the museums for the 65th anniversary all had a makeover and our beaches all been re-awarded blue flags... so there's plenty still to see & do.

Comfortable apartment in delightful surroundings

Ian and Becky Oxford
Review Submitted: August 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We spent a peaceful, relaxing 2 weeks in this delightful well equipped apartment. The location is superb - perfect for exploring the D-Day landing beaches, seeing the Bayeux tapestry and Mont St.Michel. We loved waking up to the sounds of church bells, cockerels and Stavros the donkey. Another highlight were the fresh eggs laid by Tansy and John's chickens for breakfast. Tansy and John were helpful, friendly hosts. Another highlight was the availability of Sky TV - no need to miss any of your favourite programmes!!
Owner's Response: we're in the heart of the village ... we're rural, that's for sure!

We are so very pleased you enjoyed your stay - I personally find it very difficult over the Easter period when the church bells are silent... the whole rythym of the day is somehow lost!

Stavros is possibly becoming one of the most talked about donkey's on the internet - he's even has his photos on Getty Images! He's a big stallion donkey living on his own in the field beside our house, he's convinced he belongs to us or at the very least is part of our life as he can see all the comings and goings, very gentle, somehow everyone that comes to stay is smitten by him.

If only all holidays were like this!

Alex and Sarah London, UK
Review Submitted: July 15, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We have just got home from our stay in the barn apartment and we are missing it already! We were made to feel very much like we were in a home from home, and Mike & Tansy were exceedingly pleasant and generous hosts, always on hand if we needed anything but not at all forceful - the ideal balance!

The apartment itself was lovely, couldn't ask for anything more - it was really comfortable and there's plenty of room to stretch your legs at the end of a hard day's sunbathing! We are now thinking of installing a wet room in our garden...

As for location it's perfectly based for travelling anywhere in Normandy - really close to D Day beaches and only an hour or two drive from several really great cities or attractions.

Thanks to you both for a lovely stay and should the opportunity arise we would love to stay there again.
